Job Description:
The Research Assistant will assist with protein sample preparation and organization on behalf of core facility users. This position will perform manual and semi-automated bottom-up protein digestion, sample desalting, lyophilization, and reconstitution prior to transferring samples to the Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry System (LC/MS) for analysis. With support from the Proteomics Core Manager, the Research Assistant will analyze acquired LC/MS data. Additionally, the Research Assistant will help troubleshoot any issues that arise in the preparation of the samples and collection and analysis of the data.
This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 06/30/2026 which may be extended based upon available funding.
Job Qualifications:
Education and Experience (Grade 7)

Required: Bachelor degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related field

Undergraduate research experience in chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields with previous experience working in a laboratory setting preferred.

Relevant coursework and knowledge of laboratory approaches and techniques in the areas of Proteins, Chemistry, and Biochemistry.

And/or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong computer skills with experience using software for the analysis of protein mass spectrometry data is advantageous.

Experience working with proteins (i.e. Western Blots, BCAs, Purification, performing proteomic sample prep (e.g. Protifi S-Trap, In solution digestion, Barocycler assisted-digestion, on-bead digestion, PreOmics etc.) is a plus.
Education and Experience (Grade 8)

Required: Bachelor degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related field plus 1-2 years relative experience.

Undergraduate research experience in chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields.
