Summary 

Research Assistant – MSTP individuals are trainees of the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP), a dual-degree training program for physician-scientists. MSTP supports medical and research training culminating in the receipt of both an MD and a PhD. Trainees must be admitted to the MCW School of Medicine to be considered for entry into the MSTP.

Primary Responsibilities  

  • Those as outlined by the MCW School of Medicine for the successful completion of studies and receipt of a medical degree.
  • Those as outlined by the School of Graduate Studies at MCW, individual basic science departments, and research mentors as appropriate for the successful completion of studies and research for the receipt of a PhD.
  • Those as outlined by the MSTP student handbook for successful participation in the program.

  • Collaboration, and information management.  
  • Organization, time management, interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Knowledge of computers

Physical Requirements 

Frequently required to maintain a stationary standing or sitting position for extended periods of time. Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously. 

Work Environment 

Continuously works indoors in an environmentally controlled environment with little to no exposure to moderate or extreme weather outdoors.  

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
