Job Description:
Researches, analyzes and problem-solves chemistry, efficacy, and stability aspects of essential oil and personal care products. Serves as a technical resource for cross-functional teams.
Job Responsibilities:
- Leads cross-functional Essential Oil Stability Committee. Tracks essential oil stability studies, analyzes data, draws conclusions and drives action items across departments
- Collaborates to design, execute, analyze and interpret clinical and preclinical studies on the safety and efficacy of essential oil and personal care products
- Collaborates and assists in new product development, sensory testing, and technical problem solving
- Actively collaborates with QA/QC, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Marketing and supply partners to evaluate raw materials, bulk formulas and finished package products
- Creates and reviews raw material and formulation documentation, including master formulas and specifications
- Develops and improves R&D processes
- Conducts statistical analyses as needed
- Investigates and proposes new essential oil and personal care research
- Conducts extraction and distillation experiments
- Collects, reads, and summarizes scientific papers relevant to doTERRA products and ingredients
- Writes research reports for internal or external publication
- Maintains training in GMPs, GLPs, and Organoleptic Evaluation
- Attends scientific conferences, trade shows, and industry meetings as applicable
- Performs other responsibilities as directed
Job Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in chemistry, food science, cosmetic science, or related field with scientific research, writing and publication experience; plus 2 or more years industry experience
- Background and experience in organic chemistry
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and basic statistics
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint
- Ability to communicate and write effectively
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and teamwork skills
- Attention to detail and a sense of urgency
- Self-starter with ability to work with minimal supervision in identifying tasks that need to be completed
- Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects concurrently and meet deadlines
- Ability to smell and taste essential oils, ability to topically apply essential oil-containing personal care products
- Experience in research and development of essential oils, plant natural products, fragrances, and/or personal care/cosmetic products preferred
- Familiarity and/or experience with Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry or other separation chemistry methods preferred
- Awareness of QC/QA industry practices preferred
