Company Description:

FluidAI is specialized in the development and deployment of data-driven surgical solutions, with an initial focus on general and gastrointestinal surgery. Our technologies integrate medical devices, software, and artificial intelligence into platforms that address real clinical and operational challenges across the continuum of surgical care.

We combine continuous physiological monitoring from our proprietary sensors with comprehensive electronic health record data, creating intelligent systems that enable earlier identification of clinical deterioration and complications. Beyond patient monitoring, our platform extends to patient education and engagement tools, as well as automated documentation and coding modules — supporting care teams and driving operational efficiency.

Our team brings together expertise across clinical practice, research, engineering, data science, manufacturing, and commercialization. We build solutions designed for real-world impact, supported by full in-house capabilities, a strong intellectual property portfolio, and partnerships with leading institutions around the world.

We are an equal opportunity employer and have a diverse team representation across language, ethnicity, gender and nationality.

Why Join FluidAI Medical?

  • Mission to save lives and improve patient care with technology that’s already deployed on patients in real-world settings.
  • Work with a high-performing and cross-functional team that is empowered to grow, learn, and contribute across all levels of the organization.
  • Gain exposure across the entire technical stack, from novel sensing technologies and proprietary hardware to mobile/web software and ML algorithms.
  • Personal career-focused development and training with access to workshops, coursework, and experienced mentors/consultants.
  • Regular offsite activities – past events include rafting, cottaging, axe-throwing, sports leagues, and the usual BBQ.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead design, prototyping, and testing of subsystems for FluidAI’s next-gen medical devices through literature review, design, prototyping and testing.
  • Independently design, plan and run experiments, including DoE, and turn results into design decisions.
  • Contribute to the development and filing of new intellectual property.
  • Own current clinical research and product manufacturing/development activities.
  • Contribute to NPI activities.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and troubleshooting across R&D lifecycle, often with limited data, and drive corrective actions to closure
  • Analyze, document, and communicate technical information from R&D projects to various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify and assess new technologies for future products, write feasibility proposals, and recommendations on how to bring them into the pipeline

Note: This is an office-first role working out of our Kitchener HQ in the Medical Innovation Xchange

Required Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of engineering experience in R&D, product development, or a research lab setting, ideally in medical devices or another regulated industry.

  • Solid grounding in experimental design and statistical analysis
  • Working understanding of biology, electrochemistry, and electrical engineering concepts.
  • Strong interest in developing medical technology for post-operative care settings.
  • Ability to move between quick prototyping and rigorous, documented testing as the project stage requires.
  • Experience working in a research lab setting (handling hazardous and biohazardous materials).
  • Strong technical writing, organization, and presentation skills
  • Attention to detail in all aspects of the R&D environment.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new skills and technologies

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in the relevant technical fields or equivalent.
