The role offers a chance to join Wood Mackenzie’s highly respected Power and Renewables (P&R) Research team, focusing on South Asia power market analysis and modelling. Our P&R team is known for producing market-leading research, delivering integrated, in-depth power curves and market outlooks. We conduct thorough analysis and collaborate across disciplines, combining extensive data with deep knowledge of conventional fuels and renewable supply chains.

Our models provide valuable insights into the price impacts of policy, economics, and supply chains, offering clear scenario outlooks that help users align with their business risk criteria. With expertise in market dynamics, renewable power supply chains, cost trends, and investments, we support our clients in making informed commercial and strategic decisions in a rapidly changing energy landscape.


The Role

We are seeking a Research Analyst to join our team in Gurugram, India. The successful candidate will support the regional Power & Renewables team through market research, policy and regulatory analysis, power market modelling, insights creation, and client support for India and other South Asian power markets.

As a Research Analyst, you will build a deep understanding of power market dynamics across India and South Asia and contribute across five core areas: conducting market research to track supply, demand, and investment trends; analyzing the policy and regulatory landscape and its impact on market outcomes; running and maintaining our regional power market models to produce technology and price outlooks; translating model outputs and market intelligence into clear, actionable insights for our research reports; and supporting client engagements by responding to queries and presenting findings to clients and industry stakeholders. You will collaborate with a global team of power and renewables experts, work on cutting-edge topics such as battery storage and curtailment forecasting and stay current on market developments to keep our modelling and research at the leading edge.

This role also offers opportunities to build and maintain relationships with clients and industry experts. Requirements

Qualification/Experience:

  • Work experience of 3-6 years with any - utility, developer, consultancy/research provider, university, think-tank, or another market/investment-focused organization
  • Exceptional analytical/quantitative skills, including experience in modelling or commercial analysis in power markets.
  • Experience conducting market research or policy and regulatory analysis in the Indian or South Asian power sector is highly desirable.
  • Experience in optimisation models (such as Plexos, Aurora, SDDP etc) will be an added advantage
  • Comfortable working with large datasets, databases, and APIs, and familiar with tools like Python, SQL, and Power Query to handle and analyse data

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong understanding of power and renewable market dynamics
  • Familiarity with the enablers and implications of decarbonization in the energy sector
  • Knowledge of key commercial and regulatory frameworks relevant to India and South Asia, such as support/incentive regimes, power purchase agreements, capacity and ancillary markets, transmission and distribution regulations, and energy policy
