Summary:
The Troy Record, a subsidiary of MediaNews Group, is actively seeking a versatile and enthusiastic Reporter to join our dynamic news team. We are looking for a motivated self-starter who can proficiently cover a wide spectrum of stories impacting the local community. The ideal candidate must be adept at multimedia reporting, including photography and video, and fluent in leveraging social media platforms to gather news, engage readers, and disseminate content.
This role requires the ability to travel regularly throughout the coverage area.
What you will do:
Cover breaking and enterprise news across Rensselaer, Albany, and Saratoga Counties
Demonstrate versatility by covering a wide variety of topics, from city and county government to compelling community events
Produce compelling multimedia content, including high-quality photography and video
Generate written, photo, and video content efficiently and consistently meet daily deadlines
Exhibit curiosity and a proactive approach to finding and developing stories.
Showcase a strong commitment to reader-first journalism and meeting audience needs.
What you will bring:
Bachelor’s or Associate's degree (with comparable experience) in journalism or related field
Experience reporting on breaking news, local politics, features, or enterprise journalism is strongly preferred
Proficiency in both photography and video production, coupled with an enthusiasm for experimenting with new storytelling tools and social media engagement strategies
Exceptional writing skills across a variety of story formats and lengths
Experience with copy editing principles is a valuable bonus
The ability to work weekends and be available for assignments as needed
Benefits and Compensation:
The hourly wage is $16.50. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, the Company offers eligible employees a variety of benefits including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, 401k, as well as paid time off and select paid holidays (all benefits are based on eligibility). Conditions of Employment:

Travel – This position entails occasional driving for work assignments, in-person training sessions and/or meetings. The employee will be responsible for transporting themselves between different sites as needed
Must be available for shift work. May be required to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours
