Your Role


Are you interested in economic and business journalism and do you demonstrate creativity, dynamism, and critical thinking?


Radio-Canada Toronto is looking for a reporter/editor to join its Economic Bureau.


The chosen candidate will identify and produce original stories related to the economy, business, innovation, and consumer trends.


They will also have to report and explain current news affecting, for example, trade exchanges, tariffs, or the impacts of a change in the Bank of Canada's policy rate.


The chosen candidate will present their content across all Radio-Canada platforms, with priority given to digital formats.


Your Responsibilities:

  • Propose and produce reports on the economy, innovation, commerce, or consumer trends, primarily for digital platforms, in both short and long formats, text or visual.
  • Design and deliver captivating journalistic content, from research and writing to video, audio, and textual editing.
  • Collaborate closely with other members of the Economic Bureau and all news and broadcasting teams in Toronto and elsewhere.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with a large number of sources and contacts.
  • Provide analysis on current events.
  • Edit audio and video content to produce reports within deadlines.
  • React quickly to breaking news.
  • Quickly condense large amounts of complex information while respecting time constraints.

This role requires full-time on-site presence.


Profile Sought:

  • University degree in journalism or equivalent, and at least three (3) years of recent and relevant experience in economic journalism.
  • Ability to find reporting topics and present them to a broad audience from an engaging angle.
  • Proven professional ethics within diverse teams.
  • Advanced knowledge of economic news, including audience expectations and trends.
  • Experience in validation, revision, fact-checking, and formatting of economic news content.
  • Mathematics and data analysis skills are an asset.
  • Ability to write reports based on gathered interviews or live-streamed events on the web, filling in gaps as needed.
  • Willingness to learn and take on new tasks across all Radio-Canada platforms.
  • Strong journalistic judgment and ability to work efficiently under pressure in a newsroom.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong team spirit.
  • Strong commitment to embodying and promoting diversity, inclusion, and respect in the workplace.
  • Ability to develop original and initiative-driven journalism.
  • A valid driver's license and driving record meeting the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurer is an important asset.
  • Ability to work various shifts, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.
  • Knowledge of audio and video editing software is an asset.
  • Excellent French communication and writing skills and a very good knowledge of English is an asset.
