About the Team:
The South China Morning Post (SCMP) is seeking an experienced reporter/senior reporter to join our China team, with a specific focus on defense and international relations.
Purpose of the Position:
We are looking for an experienced reporters / senior reporters who will play a crucial role in shaping SCMP's leading coverage of China’s international relations for a global audience.In this role, you will:
- Engage in in-depth reporting on China’s international relations.
- Analyze and interpret the implications of China’s policies on global security and diplomatic relations.
- Produce well-researched articles that cater to a diverse global readership while providing nuanced insights into mainland China’s role in international affairs.
- Collaborate with editorial teams to ensure comprehensive and accurate coverage of defense topics and international relations issues.
Skills and Experience that will lead to success:
- Degree holder in Journalism, International Relations, or related disciplines, with 3 or more years of relevant experience.
- Strong passion for reporting on defense and international relations, particularly as they pertain to mainland China.
- Exceptional English writing skills and high proficiency in Chinese, enabling effective communication and analysis of complex issues.
- Solid understanding of mainland China’s defense posture, history, and its social, diplomacy, and political dynamics.
- A dedicated team player with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
- An effective communicator with a keen ability to learn quickly and adapt to new topics.
- Ability to thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel frequently for reporting assignments, including potential relocation if necessary.
Work location will be in Hong Kong, Shanghai, or Beijing
