Cayenta, a division of Harris; is seeking a Technical Consultant who will join our Cayenta Managed Services (CMS) team within Managed Services & Technical Operations.

As a Technical Consultant, you will help manage and maintain the technical environments that support our customers' Cayenta ERP and Customer Information Systems. You will work across system administration, database administration, troubleshooting, maintenance, monitoring, customer support, and eventually cloud infrastructure.

This is a hands-on technical role for someone who enjoys solving problems, learning how systems work, and taking ownership of customer environments. You will initially focus primarily on on-premises customer environments, with opportunities to expand into Microsoft Azure infrastructure and cloud operations as the Managed Services offering continues to grow.

You will work closely with other Managed Services team members as well as Cayenta Support, Technical Services, Development, Business Intelligence, and other teams to maintain reliable, secure, and stable customer environments.

This may be the most important section of this job description. Read it carefully before applying.

Technical knowledge can be developed. Curiosity, resourcefulness, and ownership are much harder to teach.

We are looking for someone who is hungry to learn, willing to dig, and comfortable solving problems that don't come with step-by-step instructions.

In Managed Services, you will encounter unfamiliar configurations, technical issues you haven't seen before, incomplete documentation, and situations where the first answer you try doesn't work.

When you hit that wall, we don't expect you to already know everything.

We do expect you to keep going.

Search the internal knowledge base. Read the product and vendor documentation. Review previous tickets. Look at logs. Compare environments. Test safely. Ask knowledgeable teammates better questions. Use AI tools responsibly to help research, reason through possibilities, interpret information, and accelerate troubleshooting.

If one path doesn't work, try another.

And when you solve something new, document what you learned so the next person doesn't have to start from zero.

We are not looking for someone whose troubleshooting process ends with "I checked the KB and couldn't find it." We are looking for someone who sees that as the beginning of the investigation.

Ask yourself: when you last encountered a technical problem with no obvious answer, what did you do next?

If your instinct was to follow every reasonable lead until you understood what was happening, you may be exactly who we're looking for.

We are committed to using emerging technologies to improve how we work, solve problems, and support our customers.

The successful candidate will be comfortable incorporating AI-enabled tools, copilots, chat-based assistants, scripting, and automation into their everyday work where appropriate.

AI should accelerate good technical thinking-not replace it. Team members are expected to validate outputs, protect customer and company information, and follow applicable security, privacy, and compliance requirements.

You will serve as a primary or secondary technical consultant for multiple Cayenta Managed Services customers and help ensure their environments remain reliable, secure, stable, and well maintained.

This remote role welcomes candidates anywhere in Canada and the US.

Salary:

75K - 85K CAD

53K - 61K USD

AI & Innovation Mindset

We are committed to leveraging emerging technologies to improve how we work, serve our customers, and drive business outcomes. The successful candidate will demonstrate curiosity and a willingness to actively adopt and leverage AI tools to improve workflows, solve problems, and increase efficiency. Candidates should be comfortable using AI enabled technologies, including copilots, chat based AI assistants, and automation tools, as part of their everyday work while maintaining appropriate judgment, security, and compliance standards.

What your impact will be:

  • Manage multiple Cayenta ERP and/or Customer Information System environments simultaneously.
  • Perform SQL Server database administration and support environments that may also include Oracle.
  • Perform system administration for customer application and infrastructure environments.
  • Monitor customer environments and proactively address conditions that could affect availability, reliability, security, or performance.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, identify root causes, and coordinate resolution across teams when necessary.
  • Manage technical work through our ticketing systems and maintain clear, accurate updates.
  • Perform regular system administration activities including product releases, patching, updates, configuration changes, and maintenance.
  • Build a strong understanding of each assigned customer's environment, configuration, dependencies, and operational requirements.
  • Identify recurring problems and look for opportunities to eliminate them through better processes, automation, monitoring, or documentation.
  • Build productive, long-term customer relationships and communicate technical information clearly and professionally.
  • Prepare and deliver customer reporting containing relevant information about environment health, maintenance, risks, and activities when required.
  • Participate in the team's 24x7 on-call rotation when required.
  • Perform scheduled evening or weekend activities when customer maintenance windows require them.

Growing Into Cloud Operations

  • Help administer highly available Azure infrastructure supporting Cayenta applications.
  • Maintain Linux and Windows virtual machines and related Azure services.
  • Support Azure database, storage, networking, and security services.
  • Configure and maintain services such as Azure Storage, Key Vault, Microsoft Entra ID, and single sign-on.
  • Help ensure cloud environments are designed and administered with an emphasis on availability, reliability, security, recoverability, and scalability.
  • Develop scripts and automation for deployment, monitoring, administration, and maintenance.
  • Configure and maintain Windows Server and desktop operating systems.
  • Support or co-lead disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution for Azure environments.
  • Manage user access, permissions, authentication, and password management.
  • Support Active Directory Group Policy and Microsoft Azure/Entra policies such as Conditional Access.
  • Monitor cloud environments and help identify performance, capacity, security, and reliability concerns.

  • Participate in daily team discussions related to service delivery, deployments, customer environments, and operational improvements.
  • Prepare and participate in knowledge-transfer and training sessions with other team members.
  • Share discoveries and technical approaches that could benefit other customer environments.
  • Look for processes that can be standardized, simplified, automated, or eliminated.
  • Participate in internal projects that improve Managed Services tools, processes, monitoring, automation, or service delivery.
  • Work collaboratively with Cayenta Support, Technical Services, Business Intelligence, Development, Product, and other teams to investigate and resolve complex issues.

AI & Innovation Mindset

  • Research an unfamiliar technical issue.
  • Analyze logs or error messages.
  • Develop or review scripts.
  • Explore possible root causes.
  • Improve documentation.
  • Summarize technical findings.
  • Automate repetitive administrative work.
  • Identify better ways to monitor or maintain customer environments.

What we are looking for:

  • 3+ years of experience in technical support, system administration, managed services, infrastructure, database administration, or a related technical role; equivalent education and experience will also be considered.
  • Experience with or strong working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Working knowledge of system administration concepts in Windows and/or Linux environments.
  • Some experience with or knowledge of Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to investigate technical problems independently and work through unfamiliar issues.
  • Curiosity and a desire to understand why something is happening rather than simply applying a workaround.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while knowing when collaboration or escalation is appropriate.
  • Strong customer-service mindset and the ability to develop trusted customer relationships.
  • Comfort balancing multiple customer environments, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Experience with Apache Tomcat, including configuration, hardening, and SSL certificates.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills.
  • Experience using Jira, TeamSupport, or comparable ticketing/work-management systems.
  • Willingness to participate in weekend schedules or alternative workweeks when required, including Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday schedules.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation when required.
  • A commitment to continuous learning, documentation, knowledge sharing, and improvement.
  • Comfort responsibly using AI-assisted tools as part of technical investigation, research, scripting, documentation, and everyday work.

What would make you stand out:

  • Previous experience working in a Managed Services environment.
  • Experience administering both Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.
  • Microsoft Azure administration or cloud infrastructure experience.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft AZ-104, or AZ-305.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies.
  • Experience supporting highly available enterprise applications.
  • Experience with scripting or automation using PowerShell, shell scripting, Azure CLI, or similar tools.

  • Previous experience with enterprise software, ERP, CIS, or utility technology.

What we can offer:

  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits starting from your first day of employment
  • Employee stock ownership and RRSP/401k matching programs
  • Lifestyle rewards
