The Role
We Could Use Someone Like You in Our Crew.

This content moderation opportunity supports online communities centered around consumer electronics, modular computing, and sustainable technology. The communities focus on high-performance laptops and desktops designed to be repairable, upgradeable, and user-owned, challenging traditional tech industry models that prioritize planned obsolescence.

Community members range from everyday consumers to highly technical users, including developers and Linux enthusiasts. Moderation emphasizes accuracy, consistency, and clear enforcement of community guidelines rather than direct engagement.

As a Content Moderator, you will be responsible for reviewing and actioning user-generated content using predefined moderation guidelines and macros. This role is operational in nature and does not involve active community engagement or customer support conversations.

Primary moderation will take place on:

  • Discourse-based community forums (primary channel)

  • Reddit (secondary channel)

Commitment: 10 hours/week for ~60 days (as needed)
Hours of Operation: Coverage starting at 5:00 PM PT and later, including overnight hours, weekends, and U.S. holidays,
Orientation Start: January 19, 2026

What You'll Do

  • Review, approve, or remove posts and comments according to moderation guidelines

  • Apply moderation actions using established macros and documentation

  • Moderate content primarily on forums, with limited Reddit coverage

  • Handle modmail by directing users to official support channels when needed

  • Escalate issues appropriately following internal procedures

  • Maintain a calm, empathetic, and technically accurate tone at all times

What We're Looking For

  • Genuine interest in computer hardware and consumer technology

  • Practical, hands-on Linux experience with at least two different Linux distributions

  • Comfort moderating content in forums and Reddit communities

  • Ability to follow documentation closely and work independently

  • Reliable availability during after-hours and weekend shifts

Plus if you have:

  • Experience moderating technical or enthusiast communities

  • Familiarity with logistics, OS-related, or hardware troubleshooting discussions

  • Prior experience using moderation tools, macros, or rule-based workflows

Additional Notes

  • This opportunity focuses on content moderation only, not community engagement or direct support

  • Moderators will redirect users to official support channels when appropriate

  • Consistency, discretion, and adherence to guidelines are critical
