POSITION SUMMARY

The ministry of Religious Services Coordinator is to be a supportive presence to families in their time of grieving for a loved one.  The coordinator is ever mindful of the church's mission to treat those who mourn with compassion and the departed with reverence.  In assisting each family, the coordinator is sensitive to multi-ethnic, religious and cultural diversities.  The Religious Services Coordinator assures that ecclesiastical control is maintained in cemetery chapels and mortuary oratories through the faithful implementation of Archdiocesan guidelines in all matters pertaining to religious services. 

 

ESSTENIAL FUNCTION

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

  • Coordinates religious services in cemetery chapels, mortuary oratories and committal sites.
  • Communicates with families, parishes, funeral directors and various staff personnel in scheduling and coordinating religious services. (Funeral Mass, Liturgy Outside of Mass, Rite of Committal, etc.)
  • Directs families in planning the funeral services in accordance with liturgical guidelines
  • Assesses pastoral needs and provides appropriate guidance in all matters pertaining to religious services
  • Ensures that funeral guidelines are followed with patrons as related to liturgical matters to assure that ecclesiastical control is maintained
  • Assesses bereavement needs and makes appropriate referrals and/or follow-up as needed with patrons, parishes and clergy
  • Provides and/or seeks appropriate resources for spiritual and emotional support to patrons and the various staff
  • Maintains accurate filing systems for patron correspondence, schedules and other records as appropriate
  • Assists in overseeing the daily operations of the mausoleum Chapel to include sacristan duties
  • Participates in committees that help further the mission and ministry of Catholic Cemeteries and Mortuaries when requested or deemed appropriate including influencer work and events
  • Attends staff meetings, in-services and/or orientation programs as required
  • Performs any other duties as directed by Archdiocesan Cemetery and Mortuary management
Preferred Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and Experience

 

Any combination of experience and education likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

 

  • Bachelor's degree preferred and continuing college-level courses in related fields.
  • 2 years of related experience, i.e. counseling, teaching, training or ministerial experience.
  • Experience in liturgy preparation and coordination of sacramental services.
  • Practicing Roman Catholic

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

Knowledge of:

  • Archdiocesan principles, practices and organizations.
  • Church teachings and principles.

 

Skills in:

  • Program or service coordination
  • Assessment of needs and utilization of resources.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

 

Ability to:

  • Coordinate and follow established guidelines working alongside location personnel, i.e. Funeral Directors, Funeral Arrangers and Cemetery Arrangement Counselors.
  • Provide spiritual guidance.
  • Plan and facilitate worship and prayer for funerals, committal services and other events
  • Display sensitivity to others.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Communicate and relate to others effectively in written and oral form.
  • Collaborate with Archdiocesan Cemetery and Mortuary management in coordinating religious services and events.
  • Assure compliance with established cemetery and funeral policies, regulations, directives and requirements.
  • Position involves sitting, standing and/or walking. Position requires ability to frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Filling and retrieving documents from 4-drawers-cabinets 5 feet high.  Must reach above shoulder for 2 drawers or crouch to reach lower drawers
Physical and Environmental Requirements
 
  • Sit for sustained periods of time on a daily basis.
  • Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, walking, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Requires ability to frequently lift, pull, or push objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Sustain frequent movement of the fingers, wrists, hands and arms.
Pay Range

$24.97 - $30.08

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2 years of related experience (counseling, teaching, training, or ministerial experience)
  • Experience in liturgy preparation and coordination of sacramental services
  • Practicing Roman Catholic
  • Bilingual Spanish/English
  • Ability to provide spiritual guidance and assess bereavement needs
  • Ability to coordinate services and follow liturgical and cemetery policies
  • Ability to lift frequently up to 30 pounds and perform physical tasks (bending, stooping, reaching)
