About the role:

Samsara’s Quality and Reliability team enables an exceptional customer experience by enabling reliable hardware, identifying opportunities in product performance, and engaging cross-functionally to resolve key issues. Samsara’s Hardware Reliability Engineer will design quality processes that guarantee the high quality standards of Samsara's hardware. 

The Reliability engineer is responsible for implementing and executing comprehensive reliability strategies/plans that span the entire product development lifecycle from concept to warranty repair. The Reliability engineer quickly aggregates and analyzes test, field performance, and manufacturing data to drive actions internally and with our suppliers to ensure that we are building the highest quality product. Cross functional collaboration with hardware, firmware, and operations is an essential part of the role.

This role will be a 6 month co-op opportunity, based out of our San Francisco office. The requirement is for interns to be in office Tuesday-Thursday and have the flexibility to work remotely on Monday and Friday. Housing and relocation assistance will be provided as part of the internship experience. At this time, we are not accepting undergraduates for this co-op opportunity. You must actively be pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in the Reliability Engineering space.

In this role, you will: 

  • Work cross functionally with partners in Hardware/Firmware Engineering, Operations, and Support to ensure our customers have a best in class product experience
  • Design in reliability through the product development process and own product reliability modeling, testing, and validation
  • Lead product quality investigations in addition to root cause and corrective actions with internal cross functional team members and external vendors 
  • Analyze and investigate defect trends that improve incoming material and outgoing product quality
  • Identify opportunities for corrective actions and continuous improvement through field failure investigations
  • Create feedback loops to continuously improve the products in the field and the next generation
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • MSc/PhD in Engineering, Material Science, Physics, or a related field
  • Experience with stress testing; fatigue testing, vibration, and shock testing, electrical stress, and environmental stress.
  • Experience with failure analysis methodologies
  • Understanding of physics of failure and the application of stresses to underlying failure mechanisms
  • Experience with Design for Reliability concepts
  • Experience with hardware reliability tests, third party test oversight, and test execution
  • Self motivated, proactive, creative and critical problem solving capabilities

The range of hourly base salary for this position is below. Please note that base hourly pay may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

$38.41$45.19 USD
