Job Description:
We are seeking a hands-on Reliability Test Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will work with cross functional teams to represent reliability and understand design impact on reliability and vice-versa. You will also work in a reliability lab, designing and executing tests on electrical and electromechanical products to test for and validate long term durability and performance. You will collaborate with engineers and technicians to help drive key testing, analyze data and communicate findings through reports. The ideal candidate has hands-on testing experience and ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems effectively.
Core functions:
· Reliability Test Planning: Assess key component reliability and associated failure modes like mechanical and electrical fatigue. Translate key use-case requirements into accelerated test requirements and vice-versa.
· Testing & Characterization: 1) Perform reliability testing on PCBAs, controllers, batteries, motors, and other electromechanical components. 2) Set up and operate test instrumentation, including sensors, DAQs, power supplies, and troubleshooting equipment.
· Testing Processes & Automation: 1) Utilize Python scripting and basic programming for test automation, data acquisition, and analysis. 2) Troubleshoot and maintain lab equipment, ensuring accurate and repeatable test setups. 3) Develop and standardize test procedures to ensure consistency and repeatability of reliability tests.
· Interpretation & Reporting: 1) Collect, analyze, and interpret test data to identify trends, root causes, and potential design improvements 2) Document test procedures, results, and findings for internal and external reporting.
Additionally, the candidate will also be responsible for and involved in:
· Implementing Design for Reliability (DFR) methodologies to proactively identify and mitigate potential failure modes. Ensure designs meet industry standards for thermal, electrical, and mechanical performance.
· Use first principles approach to identify risk and its impact. Organize brainstorming sessions with key stakeholders for quick risk discovery. Conduct and participate in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) during the concept & design phase to help identify highest risks to the product.
· Developing and procuring new equipment needed to conduct tests.
· Designing outdoor test setups for long term reliability monitoring and data collection.
· Drive standardization in the reliability lab – including calibration, safety procedures, reference documentation and test templates.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s (Electrical, Mech or relevant), 5-7yrs experience. Master’s preferred with 2+ years experience.
· Hands-on experience with testing, designing test rigs, experience with accelerated testing is desired.
· Proficiency with lab instruments such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, DAQs, and power supplies.
· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a lab environment.
· Familiarity with reliability testing methodologies such as HALT, HASS, or environmental stress screening.
· Knowledge of programming/scripting for test automation, data analysis and processing
· Ability to analyze test data and communicate effectively.
· Experience with data acquisition and automation tools is a plus.
· Attention to detail and strong communication skills is necessary.
