Job Title: Release EngineerJob Summary:
Key Responsibilities:
Release Management: Handle the release process for all changes related to data pipelines, data platforms, and ML workflows. Collaborate with stakeholders, enshure adherance to defined processes, and coordinate deployment efforts across various time zones.
Cross-Geo Collaboration: Collaborate closely with teams across multiple geographical regions to coordinate the release of updates, ensuring consistent communication, and maintaining alignment on deployment strategies and schedules.
CI/CD Pipeline Implementation: Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate the deployment of data platform components, ETL processes, and machine learning models. Implement version control and automated testing to ensure smooth and reliable releases.
Collaboration: Work with Data Engineers, ML Engineers, DevOps, and IT teams to align on deployment strategies. Ensure that updates are seamlessly integrated into the data platform without disrupting the production environment.
Deployment Automation: Develop and maintain tools and scripts to automate the release of data-related code, infrastructure, and configuration changes. Leverage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using tools like Terraform and Ansible.
Incident and Risk Management: Collaborate with incident management teams to troubleshoot release failures, rollback deployments when necessary, and conduct root-cause analysis for incidents related to new releases.
Environment Management: Manage multiple environments (e.g., dev, test, staging, production), ensuring consistency across them. Implement tools to streamline environment creation and resource management.
Documentation and Runbooks: Create and maintain documentation, including release notes, deployment procedures, and troubleshooting guides, to ensure repeatability and clarity in the release process.
Monitoring and Post-Release Support: Monitor the health of deployed releases, and proactively identify performance or functionality issues in production environments. Provide Level 2 (L2) and Level 3 (L3) support in collaboration with the Data Operations team.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
Proven experience in release management, DevOps, or software engineering roles.
Strong experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps or similar) and version control systems (Git).
Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure and data platforms such as Snowflake.
Hands-on experience with scripting languages (Python, Shell) for automating deployment and release processes.
Skills:
Solid understanding of data engineering concepts, including data ingestion, ETL pipelines, and data storage systems.
Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible) tools.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities in production environments.
Cross-Geo Coordination:
Demonstrated experience in collaborating with teams across multiple regions and time zones, ensuring smooth communication and coordination in a distributed environment.
Soft Skills:
Strong communication skills, with a track record of cross-functional collaboration.
