OVERVIEW
McCain is embarking on a digital transformation. As part of this transformation, we are making significant investments in our data platforms, common data models, data structures and data policies to increase the quality of our data, the confidence of our business teams to use this data to make better decisions and drive value through the use of data.
We have a new and ambitious Data, AI and Analytics group, which serves as a resource to business teams across the globe. We are currently recruiting an experienced Release Engineer to own the software release processes and practices of the Data Platform.
JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Global Director of Data Platforms and Services, the Release Engineer for the Data, AI and Analytics team will ensure success of all deployments and implementations into the quality assurance and production environments. The Release Engineer collaborates cross-functionally with developers, quality engineers, operations, and product management to ensure seamless release cycles.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deployment Orchestration: Orchestrating and managing deployments across various environments, ensuring that releases are consistent and reliable.
- Environment Configuration : Working with platform engineers to set up and manage environments specifically tuned for data processing, machine learning model training, and analytics workloads.
- CI/CD Pipeline Management : Designing, implementing, and maintaining Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipelines specifically tailored for data and analytics projects to automate building, testing, and deploying software.
- Automation Tools Management: Designing and implementing automation strategies using and managing tools like Jenkins or GitLab CI to facilitate testing and deployment processes.
- Data Pipeline Management : Overseeing the release of data pipelines, ensuring that data is processed efficiently and accurately at each stage.
- Version Control and Integration: Managing source code and model versioning to ensure seamless integration and proper tracking of changes.
- Security and Compliance: Ensuring that deployment practices adhere to security and compliance standards specific to data handling and processing.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working closely with data engineers, data scientists, analysts, and DevOps to ensure CI/CD practices are aligned with project goals and business requirements and are released on time.
- Documentation : Maintaining comprehensive documentation of release processes, data workflows, and any automation scripts or tools used in deployments.
KEY MEASURES OF SUCCESS:
- Deployment Frequency and Success Rate: How often deployments occur, with higher frequency indicating successful automation and streamlined processes.
- Change Failure Rate: The proportion of deployments causing a failure in production, with lower rates indicating more reliable releases.
- Automation Coverage: The extent to which processes are automated, including testing, builds, and deployments, contributing to efficiency and consistency.
- Security and Compliance: Adherence to security and regulatory standards, ensuring data protection and compliance throughout deployment processes.
- Documentation Quality: The comprehensiveness and clarity of documentation for CI/CD processes and practices, aiding in maintainability and knowledge transfer.
KEY QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCES:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in cloud-based release management, with proven experience in Azure, ADF, and Databricks. Experience working in Agile or DevOps environments to foster process efficiencies.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI.
- Experience with version control systems like Git.
- Skills in scripting languages, e.g., Python, Bash, or PowerShell, for automation.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
- Understanding of containerization and orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage a support multiple deployments and releases of various complexities.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate cross-functionally.
- Certification: Relevant Azure certifications are highly desirable.
