Job Description

Wise is looking for a capable and enthusiastic Compliance Specialist to join our team in Mexico City. This role will operate within the second line of defense, working closely with various stakeholders and leadership to provide essential support and oversight to our growing Mexican operations.

The Compliance Specialist plays a crucial role in safeguarding Wise's integrity and reputation by ensuring adherence to legal and ethical standards set by regulators and authorities. The responsibilities for this position include:

  • Daily monitoring of new regulations published by relevant authorities, specifically those applicable to Money Transmitters (Transmisores de Dinero) and IFPEs in Mexico.

  • Proactive identification and communication of key regulatory changes to business and support areas, ensuring timely implementation.

  • Supporting the preparation and coordination of responses to inquiries from regulators (e.g., CNBV, Banxico) and internal/external audit requests.

  • Maintaining and updating key Compliance content repositories, including policies, procedures, and the Blocked Persons List on a daily basis, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

  • Assisting the Compliance team in conducting regulatory assessments, identifying potential gaps, and proposing practical solutions or action plans.

  • Providing basic regulatory advice to business areas on product development and operational procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable frameworks.

  • Identifying and escalating inconsistencies that could lead to regulatory breaches or financial crime risks.

  • Supporting the evaluation of new products and services from a regulatory and financial crime perspective.

  • Tracking and monitoring action plans to ensure timely compliance with regulatory requirements and deadlines.

  • Collaborating with local Wise teams to address global compliance requirements, processes, and procedures.

  • Assisting Wise teams in the development of policies, procedures, and other compliance-related documentation.

This role would be great for someone who has:

  • Foundational Knowledge. You have a basic understanding of financial regulations in Mexico, particularly those related to Money Transmitters (Transmisores de Dinero) and IFPEs. Prior exposure to anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CTF) regulations is a must.

  • Action-Oriented. You are eager to learn and can help with operational tasks, including daily updates to Blocked Persons List. You are interested in how compliance intersects with Wise's mission.

  • Enthusiasm. You are keen on improving processes and contributing to robust financial crime and regulatory compliance frameworks.

  • Communication. You are a clear and effective communicator in both written and spoken Spanish and English.

  • Diligence. You have a strong sense of responsibility, can manage basic tasks under pressure, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.

  • Attention to Detail. You are meticulous and organized, capable of managing multiple small tasks and ensuring the accuracy of daily routines and processes.

  • Team Player. You have good interpersonal skills and can effectively collaborate and build relationships with colleagues across the business.

  • Flexibility. You are willing to travel to other offices as required.

It would be ideal but not essential if you had:

A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Law, Business Administration, Economics, or International Relations.

Prior experience, even at an intern or entry-level, in a compliance, financial crime, or operational role within a financial institution or fintech company.
