About the Role: 

The Regulatory Affairs Specialist will provide leadership and strategic direction for global regulatory compliance activities. They will provide knowledge of current and future regulations regarding cosmetic ingredients, raw materials, packaging, labeling, claims, and other related areas of compliance. They will monitor changes in regulations and legislation and evaluate impacts on existing and upcoming products. The Regulatory Affairs Specialist will work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Legal and Innovation and help define regulatory strategies, while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.

  • Responsible for maintaining a centralized database of formulation information by entering new and updated raw materials, formulas and technical information
  • Responsible for developing processes/procedures to ensure formulation and raw material is kept up to date and aligned with contract manufacturer
  • Lead evaluation of cosmetic raw materials and formulations to ensure compliance with local, state, federal and international requirements throughout the product lifecycle
  • Partner with Innovation and R&D team to develop regulatory strategy to support new product launches as well as ongoing compliance requirements
  • Responsible for US Federal and State product registrations and notifications (e.g. California Safe Cosmetic Program, MOCRA)
  • Work with regional distributors and consultants to register products and ingredients in foreign markets
  • Monitor potential and confirmed changes to regulations and assess impact on existing and future portfolio
  • Develop mitigation plan where applicable, and proactively communicate advice, risk analysis and recommendations regarding future regulatory or retailer changes to stakeholders
  • Obtain and maintain Non-Government Organization/Retailer certifications (e.g. Leaping Bunny, Vegan, Clean Beauty), including monitoring and communicating any future changes and determining the impact on the product portfolio

About You:  

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of regulatory affairs experience in the personal care industry
  • Familiarity with US, Canadian and European cosmetics regulations; ability to analyze, understand and interpret regulations is required
  • Highly organized and efficient worker with excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Must take initiative and work independently, while appropriately prioritizing workload
  • Experience with Sephora, Ulta or other retailers desired
  • Experience with regulatory compliance software (e.g. Coptis) is desired

Our Total Rewards: 

The annual base pay for this position is $71,000 - $106,000 with eligibility for an annual bonus. The actual base pay will vary based on factors such as qualifications, years of relevant experience, skill level, functional expertise, certificates or other professional licenses held and geographic location.
