DESCRIPTION:
The Regulatory Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing federal and state royalty and severance tax reporting, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, and leading audit and inquiry processes. This role provides leadership to the regulatory accounting function, ensuring accurate, timely reporting and fostering strong cross-functional collaboration.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee accurate and timely reporting and payment of federal royalties (ONRR)
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal regulations and reporting requirements
- Supervise preparation and submission of state royalty reports and payments
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure ongoing compliance
- Oversee calculation, reporting, and payment of severance taxes across applicable jurisdictions
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of filings
- Lead coordination and response for federal and state audits (including ONRR)
- Review audit findings, develop responses, and manage resolution of issues
- Manage internal and external data requests, including regulatory inquiries
- Ensure alignment between production reporting, revenue accounting, and regulatory filings
- Support preliminary determinations and provide subject matter expertise
- Monitor, review, and resolve penalty and interest assessments
- Identify root causes and implement corrective actions to mitigate future exposure
- Ensure reconciliation of all general ledger accounts related to royalties and severance taxes
- Maintain compliance with SOX and internal control requirements
- Lead, mentor, and develop regulatory accounting staff
- Establish priorities, review work, and ensure deadlines and quality standards are met
- Drive continuous improvement and process efficiencies within the function
- Own and maintain regulatory accounting policies, procedures, and documentation
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 8–12+ years of oil & gas regulatory/revenue accounting experience
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong experience with ONRR reporting, audits, and regulatory compliance
- Deep understanding of federal and state royalty and severance tax regulations
- Familiarity with regulatory reporting systems and state/federal portals such as ONRR’s eCommerce Portal

- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with BOLO preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Employee must be able to sit for extended periods of time and have use of arms and hands in repetitive motion. A fair amount of standing and walking is also required for the position.
