PURPOSE
- This position is responsible for the planning of crane movement working on the vessel and the vessel cargo discharge/load sequences. The planner should consider vessel stability, safety, and an efficient yard and vessel operation.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Be responsible for the general planning activities and ensure guidelines are respected and followed
- Ensure vessels are efficiently planned and ordered according to the operational requirements
- Maintain a continuous improvement mindset by actively seeking ways to reduce wastes in operations through a better vessel and yard planning
- Maintain close coordination with Terminals, GSP and LOC to ensure service delivery is on time with the right quality
- Coordinate on daily basis with yard strategist about the different needs related with vessel operation and the yard operations impact
- Responsible for receiving and providing vessel stowage information from and to vessel operator.
- Prepares and communicates vessel load plans (pre departure baplie) and vessel work plans (quay commander) to line operators and/or central planners.
- Understand vessel stability and safety under discharge and load criteria and whether intended discharge and load plan meets those criteria
- Maintain a continuous improvement mindset by actively seeking ways to reduce wastes in operations through a better planning
- Act as an active member of the Integrated Operations Center and actively collaborate with all functions therein to ensure smooth operations executions
- Ensure efficient and highly productive planning with due consideration to the vessel stability and safety under load and discharge.
- Preparation and execution of vessel discharge and load sequence to support, achieve & sustain productivity targets
- Keeps the quay-operation and vessel administration systems updated.
- Logging or filing of related planning information or documentation in accordance with the terminal vessel planning procedure
- Support in further defining planning processes as and where required
- Support in coaching and training new planning staff
- Be actively involved in continuous improvement projects to support the achievement of targeted volume and productivity levels per terminal
- Perform other duties as required

- The position reports to the Planning Supervisor
- The geographical scope of the position is domestic
WORK/BUSINESS CONTACTS AND AUTHORITY
- Internal
- Planning Department Staff on a constant basis
- Terminals under scope of shared planning centre
- Line operators operations department and central planners
- Nature of contact is primarily shared
CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Requires bachelor’s degree in logistics, Port management, Industrial Engineering, Information technology, applied economy or any other relevant field
- Requires at least 3 year of experience in container terminal operations environment preferably in a large facility. Previous experience as a dispatcher in a container terminal environment will be an advantage.
- Requires very good knowledge of container vessel stowage and stability criteria.
- Requires in depth knowledge of Navis N4, its associated optimization and automation modules
- Previous experience in different terminals is a differentiator
- Understands safety regulations, safe working procedures and safe materials handling procedures
- Has familiarity with the strict implementation of international standards of safe working practices within marine, stevedoring and terminal operations
- Requires advanced level of verbal and written communications skills in English and Spanish. Portuguese would be a differential
- Flexibility to work on various schedules
