As a Regional Electrical Project Engineering Specialist, you will play a key role in shaping capital projects across multiple operations by providing electrical, automation, instrumentation, and controls expertise. Working closely with multidisciplinary stakeholders, you will help develop safe, reliable, and sustainable technical solutions that support the future of our business.
About the Role
Reporting to the Regional Capital Projects Engineering Manager, you will support the definition, development, and execution of capital projects with a focus on electrical systems, instrumentation, automation, industrial controls, and systems integration. You will help ensure technical deliverables are completed to a high standard while aligning project solutions with health and safety, environmental, operational, maintenance, schedule, and cost requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Define electrical requirements, control interfaces, and technical deliverables in collaboration with project managers throughout all project phases;
- Prepare, review, and technically validate drawings, specifications, bid packages, equipment lists, and engineering documentation;
- Coordinate technical activities with engineering firms, systems integrators, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project execution;
- Contribute to feasibility studies, option evaluations, preliminary estimates, schedules, and technical recommendations;
- Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, risk reviews, systems integration activities, and commissioning efforts;
- Identify technical challenges, recommend solutions, and support continuous improvement of engineering standards and practices.
What You Bring to the Role
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automated Production Engineering, or an equivalent recognized engineering discipline;
- Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, automation, industrial controls, industrial projects, maintenance, or reliability;
- Experience supporting capital project development and execution, preferably within FEL processes, engineering deliverables, and multidisciplinary project environments;
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, instrumentation, automation technologies, and industrial control architectures;
- Ability to review, interpret, and validate technical drawings, specifications, engineering documentation, and system designs while collaborating effectively with diverse stakeholders;
- Experience with machine safety and a demonstrated commitment to maintaining safe, reliable, and compliant work practices;
- Functional bilingualism (French and English), both spoken and written, is required due to the nature of the position and interactions with English/French-speaking partners, clients, or colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of aluminum smelters, heavy industrial operations, manufacturing environments, electrical distribution systems, or advanced control systems.
Interactions with
- PMs – Regional and site Project Managers;
- CPMs – Site Capital Project Managers (6);
- Internal project stakeholders: Reliability, Electrical Maintenance, Automation, Instrumentation, Operations, SMEs, Health & Safety (H&S), and Environmental teams;
- Combustion, control systems, and functional safety specialists, as required by project needs;
- Engineering firms (primary contacts and Project Managers) and system integrators.
Travel Requirements
This position requires regular travel to facilities throughout the Northeast region to maintain a field presence and provide effective support to local teams.
