Summary
The Regional Cost Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial performance of construction projects within a specific region, ensuring accurate job cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting. This role supports Project Managers and Operations by providing reliable financial insights that guide decision-making and help maintain project profitability. The Regional Cost Manager also ensures adherence to financial controls and compliance requirements, working closely with project teams, estimating, and corporate finance. Through strong collaboration and consistent financial oversight, this role helps the company achieve its operational and strategic goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Project Financial Management
- Manage the financial reporting and analysis of active projects within the assigned region.
- Monitor and report on job costs, Work in Progress schedules, and project profitability.
- Track over/under billings, contract status, cash position, and change order impacts.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of project accountants, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to ensure accuracy, consistency, and professional growth
- Create and submit all project billings
- Collect and manage AR
- Work with the Project Coordinator team to review and submit weekly AP Selections.
Job Costing & Reporting
- Ensure accuracy of GMP vs Lump Sum cost tracking.
- Collaborate with the Estimating team and Operations to establish baseline budgets and update forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide regular reporting and insights on cost performance, trends, and variances to Project Managers and the Director of Cost Management.
Forecasting & Budgeting
- Participate in the monthly forecasting process, ensuring alignment with corporate revenue and gross profit targets.
- Assist in the preparation of annual project and regional budgets, working closely with the Director of Cost Management, General Managers, and Project Executives.
- Identify risks or exposures that may impact financial outcomes and elevate concerns proactively.
Compliance & Controls
- Enforce internal project controls related to financial documentation and project compliance.
- Support project audits and ensure adherence to accounting policies and regional procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department. Performs supervisory duties in alignment with Company policies and applicable laws, including planning, assigning, and directing work, as well as managing employee’s performance and development in collaboration with Human Resources.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 7+ years of progressive experience in construction industry
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to manage priorities and deliver results
- Experience with UKG, CMiC, TrimblePay, OneStream (preferred)
- Professional certification such as CPA, CCM, or PMP (preferred)
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Primarily office-based with occasional travel.
- Reliance on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Able to handle multiple tasks and maintain control and order of all assignments.
- Conscientious about timeliness of assignments and quality of work product.
