The Role
Lead end-to-end procurement for German BoP and EHV equipment for a growing BESS pipeline. Draft RFQs, structure tenders, negotiate VOB/B and FIDIC contracts, partner with technical teams to optimize CapEx, map German EHV market and TSO timelines, secure contractor capacity, and ensure local content/LDES compliance.
Summary Generated by Built In
The Regional Commercial & Procurement Lead (Germany) will be a core commercial driver executing Field’s Balance of Plant (BoP) and 380 kV Extra-High Voltage (EHV) grid procurement strategy across our growing German standalone BESS pipeline. You will be a hands-on commercial doer who bridges complex technical parameters with sharp negotiation grit. This is a role for an ambitious engineer and commercial negotiator who rolls up their sleeves to structure tenders, directly manage VOB/B and FIDIC contracts, and secure contractor capacity across German TSOs.
In Germany, we are expanding rapidly: Our first battery storage project of approximately 33 MWh is already live, with others to follow soon. Our goal is to establish a multi-GW pipeline of operational assets by 2030, strengthening the stability and flexibility of the German power grid.
Our team brings together experts with experience in billion-dollar tech startups, building energy companies, and deep expertise in energy markets. We are a dynamic, curious, and entrepreneurial team determined to make battery storage a core pillar of the energy transition—not at some distant point in the future, but right now. Our long-term ambition is to become a leading clean energy player in Germany and Europe in the coming years, expanding our portfolio beyond battery storage.
Key Responsibilities
Main responsibilities:
German Sourcing & BoP Execution
- Hands-on Procurement: Own and execute end-to-end procurement across German BoP packages and long-lead equipment (380kV/110kV transformers), from drafting RFQs and structuring tender packs to driving direct price negotiations.
- Commercial Engineering & Estimation: Partner with technical teams to optimize BoP cost structures, reverse-engineer contractor quotes, and drive CapEx efficiencies while maintaining project bankability.
- German Market Intelligence: Actively map the German EHV construction market, maintaining real-time data on contractor availability, skilled labor inflation, and TSO lead times (TenneT, TransnetBW, Amprion, 50Hertz).
Contractual, VOB/B & Regulatory Leadership
- Direct Contract Negotiation: Lead commercial negotiations directly under VOB/B and FIDIC contract standards without relying on external legal support for standard commercial schedules.
- Interface & Claim Prevention: Establish clear Employer's Requirements and battery-to-substation boundaries to proactively eliminate VOB/B obstruction notices (Behinderungsanzeigen) and interface claims between BESS OEMs and BoP contractors.
- Local Content & LDES Compliance: Implement robust origin-tracking mechanisms to ensure pipeline sourcing meets German LDES local content rules (50%+ EU/FTA origin).
Stakeholder Management & Growth
- Contractor Capacity: Secure capacity-reservation agreements and build direct partnerships with specialized German EHV and civil contractors.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Experience & Technical Knowledge
- Technical Foundation: Master’s degree (MSc / Dipl.-Ing.) in Engineering (Electrical, Power, Civil, or related) is required.
- Business Qualification: An MBA or equivalent commercial post-graduate qualification is strongly preferred.
- Industry Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in Renewable Energy procurement, commercial management, or power infrastructure construction within Germany / DACH region.
- German Legal & Market Knowledge: Solid understanding of German construction law (VOB/B), TSO connection processes, and regional BoP execution dynamics.
- Linguistic Capability: Fluent in German and English (written and spoken).
