The Regional Sales Director (RSD), IgAN/aHUS, is a field-based leadership role within the Rare Hematology and Nephrology Franchise of Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease. This individual is responsible for regional business performance, strategic execution, and leadership of a team of Regional Account Managers (RAMs) focused on nephrology customers and sites of care, including centers of excellence and community settings. The Regional Sales Director will lead the successful execution of commercial strategies supporting IgA Nephropathy (IgAN) primarily, and atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (aHUS) with community nephrologists. What You’ll Do
As a Regional Sales Director, IgAN/aHUS you’ll coach and develop a high-performing team while fostering strong collaboration across Medical, Market Access, Diagnostics, Strategic Accounts, Thought Leader Liaison, Patient Services, and other enterprise partners to optimize patient identification, diagnostic pathways, treatment adoption, and customer engagement.

Territory: Must live within close proximity to the region and have the ability to travel regularly within it, including frequent overnight and weekend travel.

You will be responsible for:

  • Achieving or exceeding sales objectives and portfolio balance in region
  • Attracting, engaging, coaching, and developing a high performing team of RAMs in achieving or exceeding their territory sales objectives
  • Conducting regular field visits, customer visits, business reviews, and coaching interactions with RAMs to evaluate execution quality, approved message delivery, account strategy, stakeholder engagement, and follow-through on commitments.
  • Providing feedback (verbal, field coaching reports, etc.) following customer and field visits that address and support both business development and career development needs of the RAM
  • Developing and executing Regional-level business plans that address market opportunities, accelerating sales performance to achieve or exceed goals
  • Strategic use of AI-driven analytics to guide regional decisions, prioritize opportunities, and evaluate performance trends
  • Ability to convert AI-generated insights into leadership actions, coaching focus, and cross-functional alignment; and strong judgment to apply automation and advanced analytics compliantly to improve planning and execution.  
  • Leading RAMs in the development of strategic territory business plans with marketing, promotional resources, and ensuring proper implementation
  • Creating, building, and maintaining relationships and regular communication with physicians and key thought leaders
  • Leading Regional team to develop new accounts and expand business within existing accounts
  • Managing Regional budget allocations and aligning with effective utilization of resources to meet the clinical education needs of each territory
  • Guiding the team to deliver approved clinical messaging and disease education that supports brand choice and ensuring a high level of expertise and service is delivered to all customers
  • Mobilizing and coordinating cross-functional partners, including Strategic Account Leaders, Field Reimbursement Managers, Patient Education Managers, Thought Leader Liaisons, Medical Science Liaisons, Market Access, Diagnostics, and enterprise partners, to deliver Region objectives and resolve barriers in a compliant manner.
  • Conducting regular business reviews with direct manager to ensure attainment of corporate sales objectives, alignment of goals, and personal development plans of employee and staff.
  • Acting with integrity and serving as a role model by operating in alignment with Alexion’s Code of Ethics and Business Conduct, applicable laws, and Alexion policies and procedures.

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in life sciences, healthcare, business, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or equivalent healthcare experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology sales leadership experience or similar internal therapeutic and leadership experience.
  • Proven record of delivering sustained business results and leading high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated success leading account-based selling organizations in specialty, rare disease, nephrology, or related therapeutic markets.
  • Strong strategic planning, analytical, coaching, and leadership skills.
  • Experience working within complex healthcare systems and multidisciplinary customer environments. * Ability to build credibility and professional relationships with healthcare providers, administrators, and key decision makers in both community and academic settings.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Experience utilizing CRM tools, business analytics, and performance management systems.

  • Experience leading teams supporting academic medical centers, integrated delivery networks, and complex specialty accounts.
  • Demonstrated success driving cross-functional collaboration across Commercial, Medical, Market Access, Diagnostics, and Patient Support organizations.
  • Orphan or ultra-orphan disease commercial experience.
