About the Role:

The Referral Coordinator plays a critical role in managing and streamlining the referral process within healthcare or service organizations to ensure timely and accurate patient or client transitions. This position is responsible for coordinating communication between patients, providers, and external agencies to facilitate seamless referrals and follow-ups. The Referral Coordinator ensures that all referral documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. By maintaining detailed records and tracking referral statuses, this role helps improve patient outcomes and organizational efficiency. Ultimately, the Referral Coordinator acts as a liaison to enhance collaboration among multidisciplinary teams and support a positive experience for all parties involved.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare or administrative coordination role, preferably involving referrals or patient scheduling.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field.
  • Experience working in a medical office, hospital, or insurance environment.
  • Knowledge of healthcare insurance processes and terminology.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and compliance standards.
  • Customer service experience in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage incoming and outgoing referrals by verifying patient information and eligibility.
  • Coordinate with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and external agencies to facilitate timely referrals.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date referral records in electronic health record (EHR) systems or other databases.
  • Communicate with patients to provide referral status updates and assist with scheduling appointments as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, privacy regulations, and insurance requirements related to referrals.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve referral issues and improve workflow processes.
  • Prepare reports on referral activity and identify trends or areas for improvement.
