Burnett Therapeutic Services is seeking an organized, people-centered Recruiter & HR Coordinator to support hiring, payroll, employee relations, and retention across our behavioral and mental health programs. You will recruit for roles including Behavior Technicians, BCBAs, ABA Supervisors, and clinical staff while helping employees navigate key steps throughout their employment.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys connecting with people, handles confidential information with care, and can balance high-volume recruiting with detailed HR work. This role offers the opportunity to grow into an HR Lead position based on demonstrated leadership skills and performance.
Key ResponsibilitiesRecruiting and onboarding
Manage recruiting activities from sourcing and screening through interviews, offers, and candidate follow-up.
Recruit for Behavior Technicians, BCBAs, ABA Supervisors, mental health clinicians, and other roles as needed.
Build candidate pipelines through Indeed, LinkedIn, Handshake, job boards, outreach campaigns, and community partnerships.
Coordinate high-volume hiring campaigns and represent BTS at job fairs and school or community events.
Maintain candidate histories, interview notes, hiring records, and recruiting metrics.
Partner with hiring managers and the onboarding team to help new employees complete required paperwork and transition into their roles.
HR coordination and employee relations
Maintain confidential employee files and track onboarding documents, training, policy acknowledgments, and employment changes.
Coordinate employee check-ins, recognition efforts, and retention initiatives; gather feedback and identify opportunities to improve the employee experience.
Respond to routine HR questions and refer sensitive matters to HR leadership.
Schedule employee relations and disciplinary meetings, prepare relevant records, take objective notes, and track follow-up actions.
Assist HR leadership with performance improvement plans, written warnings, and other disciplinary documentation.
Help coordinate leave and accommodation requests by gathering documentation and tracking next steps under HR leadership’s direction.
Help keep HR processes and records aligned with applicable California employment requirements, including wage and hour, leave, and workplace policies. (dir.ca.gov)
Payroll and timekeeping
Review timesheets before payroll deadlines and follow up on missing punches, incomplete entries, and reported discrepancies.
Coordinate approved changes to pay rates, schedules, employee status, deductions, and other payroll information.
Work with employees, managers, and the payroll team to resolve pay questions and corrections promptly.
Track paid time off, sick leave, and other absences in the HR and payroll systems.
Flag potential timekeeping concerns, including unreported hours, overtime, and meal or rest period issues, for HR or payroll review.
Support accurate payroll records and timely processing of final pay in coordination with HR leadership and the payroll team. California requires accurate time and payroll records and has rules governing paydays and final wages. (dir.ca.gov)
Qualifications
Proven experience recruiting for BCBAs, Supervisors, and BTs roles in the behavioral or mental health field
Minimum of 3 years working in Human Resources in a healthcare setting.
Strong knowledge of CA Employment Law
Strong working knowledge of platforms such as Indeed, LinkedIn, ZipRecruiter, Handshake, and other recruitment tools
Comfortable speaking with candidates and professionals; able to “sell” the role and culture effectively
Excellent communication skills—friendly, persuasive, and professional
Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
Experience with community outreach or event-based recruiting is a plus
Data-driven mindset; ability to track metrics, analyze hiring trends, and report on outcomes
Self-starter with a go-getter attitude who can take initiative, improve processes, and work independently or collaboratively
High school diploma or equivalent (required)
Reliable computer, workspace, and internet connection (required)
Willingness to learn, grow, and contribute to a team-oriented culture
Prior experience recruiting in a mental health or healthcare setting (preferred)
Ability to submit a DOJ and FBI clearance
Work schedule:
9 am to 5:30 pm PST; however, during heavy work times, staff may be asked to work after hours. The candidate must be able to work in the office and drive to our clinics in multiple counties.
