Human Interest is on a mission to ensure that people in all lines of work have access to retirement benefits.

More than half of all working Americans are not saving enough for their future. Too often, it’s because they are employed by a company that doesn’t offer a retirement plan. Human Interest is changing that by making it affordable and accessible for small and medium-sized businesses to offer employees a path to financial independence through retirement savings.

We’re a high-growth fintech company changing the retirement industry. We are backed by a number of investors. This includes funding from Marshall Wace and Baillie Gifford, as well as top investors such as BlackRock, TPG (The Rise Fund), SoftBank, Glynn Capital, NewView Capital, USVP, Wing, Uncork, and more.

About the role

As a Recordkeeping Operations Associate at Human Interest, you play a crucial role in advancing our mission to make retirement savings accessible to all working Americans. You support the day-to-day administration of our clients' 401(k) plans, executing and reconciling financially material transactions, including securities trades, corporate actions, distributions, and cash and fund reconciliations, accurately, on time, and in compliance. This role rewards meticulous attention to detail and sound judgment on transactions that carry real financial and participant impact. By owning your assigned work, building deep expertise across several operational functions, surfacing risk early, and documenting your work to a standard that holds up under audit, you directly contribute to keeping retirement plans accurate and trustworthy for businesses across the United States.

About the team

The Recordkeeping Operations team manages the precise and timely execution of complex retirement plan transactions across multiple platforms, maintaining investments and ensuring the absolute accuracy of ledger activity. Daily activity includes executing fiduciary directed fund changes, coordinating the plan asset maintenance resulting from corporate actions, posting transaction activity in the recordkeeping ledger, as well as handling complex cash and fund reconciliations. Team members thrive on continuous improvement and elite execution. As we continue to scale, we focus on maintaining high service standards, optimizing workflows, and strengthening the controls that keep recordkeeping accurate.

What you get to do every day

  • Manage a varied workload across several of the team's recordkeeping functions, such as manual trades and trade funding, corporate actions and the resulting plan asset maintenance, distributions and reversals, source corrections, and NAV monitoring, taking on complex assignments and escalations within those areas.
  • Execute precise review and reconciliation of account data across participant retirement accounts and Human Interest operating, custodial, and suspense accounts, posting corrections that keep the recordkeeping ledger accurate.
  • Autonomously navigate and resolve highly complex, undocumented edge cases and critical escalations, transforming these into clear, actionable Standard Operating Procedure updates.
  • Provide advanced transactional assistance to other Operations teams during high volume periods, product development, or priority business needs.
  • Contribute to and help drive team improvement initiatives.
  • Work cross-functionally to improve processes and contribute to the development of scalable solutions.

What you bring to the role

  • Proven ability to trace complex 401(k) transactions and asset movements through the entire recordkeeping lifecycle to confidently pinpoint and resolve reconciliation or data errors.
  • 2–3 years of experience within 401(k) operations
  • High efficiency output in a fast paced environment, backed by meticulous attention to detail and an uncompromising commitment to quality standards.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, paired with an eager desire to actively participate in a vocal, highly collaborative team culture
  • Excitement to leverage AI and automation tools to optimize repetitive tasks, allowing you to free up bandwidth for complex problem-solving and best-in-class service.
  • Demonstrated success in overcoming complex challenges
  • Proven ability to plan ahead and consistently meet performance goals
  • Strong aptitude for identifying and communicating process improvements
  • Deep understanding of the expected behavior of HI's recordkeeping product
  • Strong demonstration of Human Interest's Operating Principles in daily work
  • Consistent history as a top performer in current HI role

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience.
  • ASPPA QKA Certification or equivalent.
  • Power-user status in Microsoft Excel or basic SQL to efficiently trace and reconcile large data set
