The Supplier Quality Development Engineer (SQD) for Propulsion Systems at Stellantis is accountable for leading and managing suppliers througcritical issue recovery such as quality spills, supply constraints and throughput OEE constraints to ensure high operational efficiency, robust industrialization, and capable manufacturing processes that meet Stellantis quality and capacity requirements. 

 

This role requires close collaboration with internal and external Engineering, Manufacturing, and Purchasing teams to ensure appropriate containment and mitigation plans are selected, validated, and implemented to recover normal production quality and supply.  

 

As a key driver of supplier performance, the Propulsion SQD leads root cause analysis and structured problem-solving efforts, drives process improvements, and ensures deployment of best practices and lessons learned across programs. The SQD serves as the technical expert for the manufacturing processes and technologies associated with propulsion system components. 

 

Typical propulsion components in scope include: 

  • Electric Drive Modules (EDM) 
  • Driveline Components 
  • Battery Packs and Modules 
  • Power Electronics (Inverters, Converters, On-Board Chargers) 
  • Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) components (when applicable) 
  • Transmissions and eAxles 
  • Thermal management systems related to propulsion 
  • Purchased Engines 
  • Castings 

 

The SQD partners with suppliers to evaluate and improve their manufacturing processes, establish robust quality systems, and ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality components to Stellantis assembly plants. This includes frequent onsite supplier visitsproviding technical feedback to ensure corrective and preventive actions are effectively implemented. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Drive resolution of supplier-related quality and supply issues 
  • Support responsible SQEs in crisis management with local onsite support 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with supplier, purchasing, supply chain, engineering, quality to resolve issues  
  • Quickly and accurately identify equipment-related issues, frame problems, and implement effective resolutions 
  • Apply advanced maintenance and problem-solving tools to eliminate chronic equipment failures and reduce downtime 
  • Lead the development and execution of preventive maintenance strategies to extend equipment life and reduce unplanned downtime 
  • Implement and sustain 5S and visual management systems to improve workplace efficiency and safety 
  • Plan, prioritize, set goals, and manage multiple autonomous and preventive maintenance projects across supplier and plant locations 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate autonomous maintenance, preventive maintenance, and workplace organization into broader quality and reliability strategies 
Preferred Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Engineering from an ABET accredited university 
  • Minimum 2 years' work experience manufacturing setting with 5 years overall experience 
  • Reactive Green Belt Certification 
  • Self-motivated/ organized/ accountable and with a strong sense of urgency / able to prioritize with minimal supervision 
  • Strong Communication, analytical and negotiation skills at all levels of management 
  • Team building, coaching and program management skills 
  • Ability to travel within the North America Region 
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Strong Problem-Solving Skills 
  • Strong Process Analysis Skills 
  • Strong conflict resolution skills 
  • Reactive Black Belt Certification 
  • Experience in Supplier Quality, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Engineering or Manufacturing 
  • MBA or Engineering Master's Degree
