This full-time position is based around the Indianapolis area, the general range for this position is $22-$25/hr. and includes full benefits (below).

The New Beginnings (NB) Coach assists in follow-up for New Beginnings program participants who are in need of education and/or employment development.  Coordinates and assists in the intake, assessment, orientation, advising, enrollment procedures, and follow-up for NB program participants.  The NB Coach coaches, mentors, and facilitates activities for training clients in order to improve employability by utilizing appropriate training methods and motivational techniques to help reduce the recidivism rate and help participants reintegrate back into society, and ensure job retention.  Additional duties include networking with outside resources to promote Goodwill’s programs and services.   Builds and maintains relationships with all stakeholders. The Coach works with minimal supervision and relies on self-direction to complete goals as established by the organization and its funding partners through the Department of Labor and Goodwill International.  

Example Duties and Activities 

  • Builds and maintains networks with key community partners including Goodwill staff (community agencies, educational institutions, financial liaisons, and employers) to enhance the menu of wrap-around services provided to participants.  Assists in maintaining and updating the resource library.  Serves as the primary point of contact with community partner organizations to receive and manage client referrals.

  • Works with program participants to assess and comprehend risk factors/needs and to deliver effective support.  Assists participants in improving work behaviors and skills acquisition to enhance their success with employment. Conducts one-on-one follow-ups with participants to continually monitor their efforts and measure progress. Makes recommendations to provide guidance and counseling. Generates status reports and makes adjustments as needed.

  • Partners with participants in developing individual development plans (IDPs) that will fit their specific needs and skills in relation to education and employment. Modifies plans as needed.  Constructs and maintains initial documentation progress files.

  • Secures supplementary information such as employment, criminal history, medical records, psychological, agency referrals, eligibility documentation, or school reports. 

  • Maintains and cultivates working relationships between Goodwill, referring parties, and the funding resources to provide a smooth transition from the referring agency through the enrollment process and into appropriate programs.

  • Assists participants in assessing community resources, wrap-around services, and making appropriate referrals.

  • Provides direct counseling, intervention, advocacy, and referrals; provides transportation services when needed.  Provides assistance and direction, encouraging participants toward self-dependence in daily decision-making and problem-solving activities.

  • Conducts regular employment progress reports.  Performs worksite evaluations to determine potential accommodations.  Performs liaison functions with referral sources and other community agencies.

  • Works in partnership with other staff members to ascertain the root cause and appropriate direction for resolution.

  • Participates in singular and group conferences in evaluating case problems and skill improvement.  Arranges for evaluation or assessment to be completed as part of the intake and diagnostic process when necessary.

  • Provides job coaching and on-the-job training.  Organizes and presents job readiness preparation either one-on-one or in small groups.

  • Effectively leverages internal, professional, and community networks to drive results.

  • Establishes regular contact with participants to offer services and to keep them engaged, for follow-up and retention.

  • Monitors accomplishment of numerical enrollment goals, participant enrollment dates, and participant achievement and completes billing requirements. Tracks, documents, and communicates program-specific metrics utilizing multiple reporting systems.

  • Participates in continuing professional development relevant to the goals of the position.

  • Participates in staff meetings.

  • Attends community meetings as related to the identified goals.  Promotes the NBP to create community awareness for participant recruitment/enrollment.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to occasionally work a flexible schedule beyond normal business hours.

  • Travel - Is willing to travel to participants’ workplaces, community centers, and other venues at times that are convenient to individuals being served and be able to transport program participants as needed.

  • Background Screening - All candidates must pass a pre-employment background check.

  • Driving - Must have a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and qualify under the district’s insurance carrier when driving a district vehicle.

Employment Status

  • This position is supported by grant funding and is considered at-will employment. While the organization anticipates the role will continue long term, continuation of the position is dependent upon the availability and renewal of grant funding.
