SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Manages and is responsible for the timely and quality completion of Research and Development projects that are of considerable scope and complexity. Primarily but not limited to new product development projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED
1. In addition to the requirements of the Senior Engineer II (JD 20057), is capable of managing multiple development project to assure timely delivery of new or improved products which meet user needs. As part of this, balances the technical requirements of complex senior engineering level II projects with the management and timely delivery of business objectives.
2. Is accountable for assigned projects and reports status regularly to management.
3. Executes the Design Control for assigned project(s) according to Merit procedures.
4. Serves as lead engineer on assigned project(s).
5. Responsible for the success of assigned project(s).
6. Leads and monitors the multidisciplinary project team assigned to project(s).
7. Creates, tracks, and meets project schedules, plans, and budgets.
8. Reviews documentation to assure they meet both internal (Merit) and external (professional) standards.
9. Conceives, plans and conducts development projects which are of considerable scope and complexity under Merit Design Control Procedures.
10. Proven ability to perform supervisory responsibilities.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
SUMMARY OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Education and/or experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering or equivalent
• A minimum of ten years of related experience in medical product development or equivalent.
• Demonstrated project leadership skills – may be demonstrated as a project leader on a smaller project or portion of project.
• Strong understanding of medical device design control processes (FDA, EU etc.)
• Ability to independently apply analytical skills, complex scientific technical principles and detailed knowledge in solving engineering problems and developing new products, techniques or designs.
• Demonstrated computer skills including 3D solid modeling, spreadsheets, word processing, database and other applicable software programs.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively as a team leader
• Working knowledge of United States and international standards as applicable to the department.
