Job Description:

Education:
Required: Graduate from an associate degree Respiratory Therapy training program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Allied Health Professions (CAAHEP) in collaboration with the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)
Licensure/Certification:
Required: Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license from the Respiratory Care Board of California, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association (AHA); additional certifications required as outlined:

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from AHA upon hire:

  • 7720 Respiratory Care

Experience:
Preferred: Experience in an acute care facility

Reports To: Manager or Director Supervises: N/A Ages of Patients (as assigned): Neonate/ Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric Blood Borne Pathogens: High Potential

Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and unexpected situations, Ability to communicate with patients, healthcare professionals, and staff to ensure clear and accurate exchange of information, Ability to document and process procedures on a daily basis in the department records, Ability to effectively communicate in a positive and professional manner, Ability to maintain and operate respiratory therapy equipment according to technical specifications and application of equipment, Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines, Ability to work independently and as a team member, Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, Problem solving skills with respiratory modalities in the clinical setting, Self-starter; driven to take action without needing prompting

Essential Responsibilities

1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations. 2. Promotes and provides a safe and effective respiratory care to patients. 3. Performs patient assessment and develops an appropriate plan of care according to hospital policy and protocols. 4. Performs routine respiratory care procedures as appropriate for assigned areas according to hospital policy or protocols. 5. Performs charting and documentation that is consistently complete, accurate, legible and informative. 6. Provides teaching and educational material to the patient and/or significant others concerning respiratory therapy. 7. Responds to emergency situations and provides appropriate and timely treatments. 8. Assists physicians or RCP IIIs with specialized care (e.g., bronchoscopy, trans-tracheal oxygenation). 9. Participates in performance improvement and quality assessment activities and interdisciplinary teams as appropriate. 10. Complies with policies; uses discretion and follows through with areas of concern. 11. Participates in activities resulting in professional and departmental growth; attends continuing education programs to promote professional growth and maintains licensure in a timely manner. 12. Maintains a high productivity level. 13. Completes tasks in allotted time at the end of each shift. 14. Acts in a temporary capacity as team leader, if applicable. 15. Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills Required

  • Graduate from an associate degree Respiratory Therapy training program accredited by CAAHEP in collaboration with CoARC
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner license from the Respiratory Care Board of California
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification from the American Heart Association upon hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification from the American Heart Association upon hire
  • Experience in an acute care facility
