Summary
The Client Billing Manager is responsible for overseeing the client billing process for diagnostic laboratory services, including client invoicing and the accounts receivable management related to client billing. This role involves managing the Client Billing team, working directly with billing vendors and internal stakeholders to develop and maintain an effective workflow(s) aligned with client, GeneDx, and Lab Service Agreement (LSA) requirements. The Client Billing Manager is accountable for optimizing performance, improving operational efficiency, and maximizing reimbursement outcomes.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the client billing process for diagnostic laboratory services from invoice submission through final resolution, ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement.
- Oversee the review and resolution of disputed, pending, and aging invoice balances, ensuring thorough investigation and appropriate corrective action.
- Ensure invoices are reviewed, submitted, and managed in accordance with client, GeneDx and LSA requirements, guidelines, and regulatory standards.
- Partner with internal teams and external billing vendors to resolve complex issues and improve reimbursement outcomes.
- Partner with internal teams to coordinate new client setup as well as existing client updates within the billing software.
- Partner with internal teams to coordinate new and existing client pricing for invoices based on the LSA.
- Monitor invoice inventory, accounts receivable performance, and operational metrics to ensure service level expectations are achieved.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Client Billing team, setting clear performance expectations and driving accountability for productivity, quality, and reimbursement results.
- Analyze invoices and identify trends, root causes for disputes and issues, and implement process improvements to reduce preventable issues and enhance client performance.
- Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues, provide updates, and support organizational objectives.
- Prepare regular reports on client activities, operational performance, reimbursement trends, and team productivity for leadership.
- Coordinate system implementations, upgrades, and process improvements related to client billing workflows and operations and oversee ongoing support and maintenance activities.
- Develop and maintain client billing-related policies, procedures, training materials, and best operational practices.

Education, Experience, and Skills
- Associate’s degree in healthcare administration, business, finance, or equivalent experience in a related field.
- 5–7 years of experience in laboratory billing, insurance claims, client billing or revenue cycle management.
- Strong understanding of insurance claim processes, healthcare regulations, HIPAA, and compliance requirements.
- Strong critical thinking skills to identify root causes, resolve complex issues, and implement effective solutions.
- Advanced knowledge of service requirements, adjudication processes, dispute management, and reimbursement methodologies.
