Position Highlights

General hours of work: Monday – Friday (Varied days as department needs coverage). Involves required on call rotation for evenings, weekend, and holidays.

SUMMARY: Responsible for the day-to-day operations and strategic functions of the Radiology Department.  Ensures that all standards and regulations concerning radiology services are met and maintained.  Ensures quality radiology services.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
• Successful completion of accredited school of Radiology.
• Minimum of two years clinical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATIONS: 

• Registered Radiological Technologist with ARRT.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Plans, directs, and supervises all technical aspects of the department in regard to services, programs, and evaluation of such programs.
• Maintains radiological services in accordance with the standards established by the hospital with the federal, state, and local standards that may apply.
• Is responsible for existing equipment and such contractual services as may be required.  Recommends equipment modification, new equipment and essential construction within the department.
• Coordinates departmental purchasing and is responsible for stock levels, storage, and utilization.
• Is responsible for the technical aspect of radiation safety in the hospital, recommending programs, monitoring and location of warning or identifying devices in carrying our recommendations of the radiation safety officer.
• Administers preparation of reports, documents, statistical surveys, and other data required.
• Provides for recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and other personnel matters in the department.
• Develops a staff schedule for the department including call schedule ensuring 24/7 call coverage.
• Makes work assignments and coordinates requirements for radiological services with hospital and clinic routine.
• Evaluates accuracy and technical quality of imaging studies, demonstrates difficult or new techniques and procedures to the technical staff.  Delegates responsibility to other staff as required. 
• Provides a channel of communication to the Dir. of PCS and CEO for the department.  Provides accurate financial data as requested and assists in the budgeting process.
• Develops and revises policies and procedures for the Radiology Department and ensures compliance.
• Use dosimeter to monitor employee exposure.
• Will operate x-ray and computed tomography equipment to make diagnostic radiographs of designated body parts under the supervision of a director of radiology, following radiologist protocols.
• Educate patient on exam preparation to achieve the best diagnostic images.
• Follow policies regarding lead protective devices.
• Position and instruct patient for particular examination.
• Use proper supportive devices and angle boards when needed.
• Use correct exposure factors to produce diagnostic images.
• Make proper exposure from behind protective barrier or adequate distance from patient and equipment.
• Be able to differentiate between diagnostic and repeatable images.
• Follow protocols for administration of contrast.
• Other general duties related specifically to the radiology and CT department include but are not limited to: scheduling patients for radiology examinations at other facilities.
• General knowledge of computers and PACS/EMR for job specific duties.
• Other tasks as assigned.

• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
