About Etched
Etched is building AI chips that are hard-coded for individual model architectures. Our first product (Sohu) only supports transformers, but has an order of magnitude more throughput and lower latency than a B200. With Etched ASICs, you can build products that would be impossible with GPUs, like real-time video generation models and extremely deep chain-of-thought reasoning.
Rack Level Integration Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled Rack Level Integration Engineer to join our team and play a crucial role in selecting, qualifying, and integrating all components within data center racks. As a Rack Level Integration Engineer at Etched, you will oversee the selection, qualification, and integration of various components within a data center rack. Your role will involve working with our world class Sohu system product along with top-of-rack (ToR) switches, high-power water cooling systems, CDU (Coolant Distribution Units), heat exchangers, and managing rack-level functions. You will also be responsible for hands-on lab racking and stacking, as well as general engineering for high-touch rack setups to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Representative Projects
- Select and integrate all components within a data center rack, including servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and cooling solutions.
- Have in-depth knowledge of top-of-rack switches available in the market. Assist in selecting, configuring, and integrating these switches into the rack environment.
- Manage and integrate high-power water cooling systems, including CDU and heat exchangers. Design and implement rack-level manifolds for effective water integration and thermal management.
- Set up, test, and qualify complete rack solutions to ensure they meet performance, reliability, and efficiency standards.
- Integrate and configure smart PDUs to manage power distribution efficiently. Ensure compatibility with rack-level power management functions.
- Maintain a strong understanding of rack-level management functions, including monitoring, control, and automation of rack components.
- Perform hands-on lab racking and stacking, including the assembly and setup of high-touch rack configurations. Ensure proper installation and integration of all components.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for rack-level integrations, including component specifications, installation procedures, and testing results. Report on performance and any issues identified during testing.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, systems engineers, and vendors, to ensure seamless integration and operation of rack-level solutions.
You maybe a good fit if you have
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in data center engineering or related areas are a plus.
- A Minimum of 5 years of experience in rack-level integration, including experience with top-of-rack switches, CDU systems, high-power water cooling, and heat exchangers.
- In-depth knowledge of top-of-rack switches and experience with their configuration and integration
- Extensive experience with high-power water cooling systems, including CDU systems, heat exchangers, and rack-level manifolds
- Hands-on experience with lab racking and stacking, and setting up high-touch rack configurations.
- Strong understanding of rack-level management functions and integration best practices. Linux experience is required
- Experience with testing and qualifying rack-level solutions to ensure performance and reliability
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification.
How we’re different:
Etched believes in the Bitter Lesson. We think most of the progress in the AI field has come from using more FLOPs to train and run models, and the best way to get more FLOPs is to build model-specific hardware. Larger and larger training runs encourage companies to consolidate around fewer model architectures, which creates a market for single-model ASICs.
We are a fully in-person team in Cupertino, and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both as needed.
Benefits:
- Full medical, dental, and vision packages, with 100% of premium covered, 90% for dependents
- Housing subsidy of $2,000/month for those living within walking distance of the office
- Daily lunch and dinner in our office
- Relocation support for those moving to Cupertino
