Racing Propulsion Project Engineer - Data Analysis and Tools

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to [Pontiac, MI] three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business].

The Role
GM Motorsports Propulsion and Performance Team is expanding its analytical resources to support our growing Sports Car Racing programs. You will be responsible for building, developing, and maintaining a database and tool suite to accelerate data analysis, team knowledge, and issue resolution both on and off-track. You will work closely with the Lead Propulsion, Development, and Track Support Engineers to help identify solutions that best meet the needs of our racing programs. You will leverage key stakeholders across GM's other race programs to co-develop enterprise-wide solutions where feasible.
Joining the Sports Car Propulsion Team will provide you with the opportunity to showcase and develop your skills through challenging individual and collaborative development activities - ultimately helping to shape the future of motorsports.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with multiple GM groups and partners supporting the Sports Car racing programs to grow data management capabilities
- Develop tools to help analyze and catalog vehicle and propulsion system data
- Assist in the review of propulsion system track and dyno data to identify performance trends
- Utilize data analytics and mathematical methods to help identify opportunities for hardware and software improvements
- Collaborate with other propulsion engineers to extract and correlate dyno, track, and simulation-derived data
- Support Senior Propulsion Performance Engineer projects and workflow
- As appropriate, lead or support program meetings with key internal and external stakeholders
Additional Description
What You'll Need (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science
- 2+ years of engineering experience following the completion of a degree
- Ability to balance multiple projects efficiently, including prioritization and working to tight deadlines
- Ability to present data clearly and concisely; examples may be requested
- High proficiency in problem solving, methodically finding, and solving issue root causes
- Enthusiasm to learn independently and from others, share knowledge, and contribute to a collective knowledge base.
- Exceptional work ethic and integrity
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Knowledge of database management software and methods
- Propulsion System knowledge / familiarity is preferred
- Motorsports experience is preferred; Collegiate programs such as Formula SAE or personal hobby engagement are considered acceptable experience
- Demonstrated proficiency with propulsion related analytical tools
- Experience with machine learning and/or Artificial Intelligence for data analytics
- MATLAB / Simulink, VBA, Python, C++ experience
