The Role

The R&D product engineer position is responsible for product maintenance, product design improvements, and sales and marketing support for designated products. The position also has responsibility for providing semi-complex to complex product support to customers both in the field on job sites and remotely via telephone and email. The position requires a good working knowledge of the designated product lines and the ability to process and interpret complex and ill-defined issues and challenges related to the products. The position reports to the sub-division R&D manager and works closely with other business functions across the organization (product management, sales support, order execution, finance, etc).

Products specific to this position are market leading municipal and industrial wastewater treatment technologies.

What You'll Do:

  • Review product standard drawing update requests and facilitate drawing changes through coordination with design and drafting group.
  • Provide product design support, primarily mechanical, but also including basic electrical, automation, process sensors and process support.
  • Conduct value engineering reviews of products and implement any agreed changes in product standards.
  • Work with product management and order execution engineering to facilitate product improvements and enhancements.
  • Work with product management on new product development, utilizing the stage gate process.
  • Maintain product information, design tools and estimating tools.
  • Coordinate development of engineering and automation programs with development teams.
  • Provide product training for project engineering teams, technical sales engineering, application engineering, sales force and external sales representatives.
  • Travel to job sites as needed for customer input and/or product design evaluation
  • Ability to travel up to 20% required.

What You'll Bring:

  • BS or MS in Engineering or 2 year technical school in applicable fields and/or equivalent years of experience
  • Minimum of 3 years experience working with products and technologies in the wastewater industry.
  • Experienced with Autodesk Inventor, Creo Windchill, or both.
  • Ability to review proposed drawing and model changes in the native software and provide comments and/or change as needed.
  • Ability to coordinate product changes and drawing modifications with an international team.
  • Proficiency in creating Microsoft Excel macros, VBA programs, pivot tables and other charting tools
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly effective time and project management, capable of working on multiple projects at once
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently or with groups/teams.

Additional skills considered:

  • Wastewater process design experience, including aerobic and/or anaerobic processes
  • Experienced with additional Microsoft Applications such as Power BI, Power Automate, PowerApps
  • Ansys and/or Autodesk FEA and CFD experience
