The job
R&D Principal Technologist is a senior technology leader responsible for driving DevOps, cloud, platform engineering, and reliability strategies across the organization. The role requires 10+ years of experience in software engineering, cloud infrastructure, SRE, or related areas, with expertise in CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code, Kubernetes, cloud-native architectures, DevSecOps, observability, and automation. The individual will architect scalable, secure, and resilient solutions across Azure, AWS, and hybrid environments while leading cross-functional teams, mentoring engineers, and influencing technical strategy. Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills are essential to deliver platform modernization, engineering excellence, and measurable business outcomes.
Key responsibilities
Lead the strategic evolution of CONNECT DevOps platform capabilities, partnering with engineering, product management, architecture, and business stakeholders to accelerate delivery of critical programs and enterprise initiatives.
Define and drive the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for cloud-native DevOps platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and operational excellence across the organization.
Champion Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and Platform Engineering practices to proactively improve system availability, performance, resilience, and operational efficiency.
Provide technical leadership and architectural governance across software delivery, infrastructure automation, CI/CD, deployment models, observability, and cloud operations.
Drive the design and implementation of highly scalable, secure, and compliant CI/CD ecosystems that enable continuous delivery and accelerate product release velocity.
Drive observability strategies through enterprise monitoring, distributed tracing, telemetry, logging, and AIOps solutions to enhance operational intelligence and predictive incident management.
Lead the development of advanced automation, self-healing, auto-remediation, and intelligent operational tooling to minimize downtime, improve service reliability, and reduce manual intervention.
Establish governance and best practices for Infrastructure-as-Code, configuration management, cloud resource optimization, and deployment automation across enterprise-scale environments.
Influence organizational DevOps maturity by defining metrics, KPIs, and engineering excellence initiatives focused on reliability, deployment efficiency, platform adoption, and operational effectiveness.
Serve as the technical authority and trusted advisor for DevOps architecture, cloud infrastructure, platform modernization, and software delivery transformation initiatives across CONNECT.
Essential requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
10+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), with experience leading enterprise-scale initiatives.
Proven track record in defining and driving DevOps strategy, cloud adoption, platform modernization, and engineering excellence across multiple teams.
Expert understanding of CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), cloud-native architectures, containers, Kubernetes, DevSecOps and observability platforms.
Strong software development and automation expertise with proficiency in languages such as Python, PowerShell, C#, Go, or similar technologies.
Demonstrated ability to architect scalable, secure, highly available, and resilient solutions across Azure, AWS, and hybrid-cloud environments.
Strong leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence technical direction across engineering organizations.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to senior leadership, architects, engineers, and business stakeholders.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, drive strategic technology decisions, and deliver measurable business outcomes.
Desired skills and competencies
Expert knowledge of Azure DevOps, GitHub, Git, CI/CD pipeline design, and software delivery automation.
Deep expertise in Azure and/or AWS cloud platforms, Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, ARM, Bicep, CloudFormation), and cloud governance.
Extensive experience with Kubernetes, container platforms, and modern platform engineering practices.
Strong experience in observability, monitoring, logging, automated remediation, and reliability engineering.
Advanced scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or equivalent technologies.
Knowledge of enterprise security, identity management, compliance, and DevSecOps best practices.
Relevant certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, AWS Professional, or Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) are highly desirable.
