Job Description: Kinetic Modeling Specialist
Summary:
An excellent career opportunity is currently available for a Modeling Specialist within R&D Modeling group located in Gurugram, India. The group hosts modeling capabilities in process modeling, CFD modeling and molecular modeling. The role is accountable for the development of reactor and process models and process analytics solutions which are critical to the commercialization and ongoing support of PT technology. This position reports to the Manager of Process Design Development & Modeling, HITC
Detailed Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver reactors, kinetic and process models. Develop and maintain process analytics models for refinery and petrochemical technologies which meet the needs of R&D, Engineering, and Sales Support
- Develop Yield Estimating Tools which meet the needs of Engineering and Sales Support
Use understanding of kinetics, mass transfer and reaction engineering to make innovative
contributions to PT technology development efforts
- Analyze plant operating data to generate actionable insights and performance recommendations.
- Support catalyst life prediction, cycle length estimation, yield forecasting, and operational trend monitoring.
- Validate analytics solutions against historical plant and customer data.
- Collaborate with Technical Services (TS), R&D, software development, and customer teams to define and implement technology-specific KPIs.
- Develop enhanced work processes and modeling techniques
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Monitors scientific and modeling literature to understand the state of the art, and makes recommendations for acquisition of new modeling equipment or tools.
Basic Candidate Requirements:
- A PhD in Chemical Engineering with 2+ years experience in modeling, process simulation, process development or reaction engineering or
- A Master's/ Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 5-10 years experience in R&D / Process Technology / Digital Solutions / Technical Services, modeling, process simulation, process development, reaction engineering.
- Experience in refining, petrochemical, hydroprocessing, hydrotreating, or catalytic reaction systems.
- Strong understanding of reaction engineering, process fundamentals, and refinery operations.
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, Aspen Plus, Unisim, and equivalent tools.
- Experience with statistical analysis, regression techniques, and process data analytics.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Additional Candidate Qualifications:
- Experience with catalyst performance monitoring and lifecycle management.
- Knowledge of kinetic modeling, machine learning, and predictive analytics.
- Familiarity with refinery data historians and dashboarding platforms.
- Customer-facing technical consulting experience
- Excellent communication skills to understand and document customer requirements and to effectively convey recommendations to other disciplines.
- Familiar with Six-Sigma tools and their application
- Knowledge of UOP technologies: Refining/Petrochemicals/Gas Processing applications
- Good mastery of process simulation and numerical methods to solve ODEs, PDEs and perform optimization
- Good statistics background with emphasis in non-linear parameter estimation and experimental design
- Excellent computer programming skills (Fortran, C#, Visual Basic)

Skills Required
