Summary Description:

The role is to provide technical expertise for the Gorilla Research & Development team including new product development, test development, equipment sourcing and providing new technical solutions.  This role provides design, management and execution of key pieces of technical work. This person is a team player and requires high level of cross-functional interactions both internally and externally with suppliers and customers. This role requires mechanical aptitude, problem solving capabilities and hands on project work in the areas of adhesives, tapes, coatings and sealants, bringing forward new technical insights based upon original ideas. This person has fully developed oral and written communication skills and is developed to anticipate and communicate key issues and drive decisions with appropriate communication to key stakeholders. 


What will your day look like?
  • Management of R&D projects in support of NPD, laboratory upgrades and new frontier explorations.
  • Technical development activities for NPD projects including prototyping, formulation and process validation, claims substantiation and communicating results and issues effectively to the team.
  • Manage supplier relationships with technical counterparts.
  • Communicate important project updates to drive decisions with key stakeholders.
  • New test method development and validation, including equipment identification, fixture design and ensuring the test methods are robust.
  • Sales and Marketing support for demo creation and product knowledge and translating technical performance into marketable claims.
  • Understand performance and claims of all Gorilla products and top competitors in each Gorilla category.
  • Coach and train junior members of the R&D organization.
QualificationsWhat will you bring to the table?
  • B.S. in Industrial, Chemical, Materials or Manufacturing Engineering minimum 3 years’ experience.
  • Some experience in materials testing, adhesive, sealant or coating formulating and adhesives industry required.
  • Background in statistics, analytical testing and DOE a plus.
  • Ability to contribute at a high level to the company technology development strategies.
  • Candidate must possess ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities with a strong attention to detail, ability to creatively solve issues as part of a team, assertiveness, integrity, innovation and creativity.
  • Excellent organizational skills. Fully developed written and verbal communication skills are required as this role interacts with all levels within the organization and outside suppliers and customers.
  • Should be goal oriented, confident and able to work well under pressure.
  • Mechanically inclined – operation of lab equipment for maintenance, troubleshooting and product testing.
  • Team player and strong work ethic.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stoop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, talk, hear, see and use repetitive motions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds of material, boxes, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as reading handwritten and or typed material and must have the ability to focus.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial, Chemical, Materials, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • At least 3 years of professional experience
  • Experience with materials testing
  • Experience formulating adhesives, sealants, or coatings
  • Experience in the adhesives industry
