OVERVIEW: 

Perform projects related to the development of algorithms and methods for utilizing quantum computing for physics-based mathematical modeling of multi-phase flow through porous media and numerical optimization. Performs testing and performance analysis studies on new and existing quantum computing methods to determine feasibility for use in reservoir simulation applications. Maintains knowledge of state-of-the-art in research and industry.  Develops and maintains industry and research contacts to promote development of new algorithms and integration of existing algorithms into commercial applications.  Provides support to colleagues and customers using developed features and collaborates with team members to identify potential applications for developed algorithms.

Performs engineering projects and technical services requiring original or unusual analyses and solutions. Applies expertise in one of the engineering disciplines to solve technical problems relating to any of the Saudi Aramco enterprise activities.  Works on engineering problems, designs, projects, and occasionally may review or coordinate engineering work performed by others.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: 

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design and develop scientific software.
  • Work with parent company (Saudi Aramco) technical experts to establish technical requirements for software.
  • Design and implement new and existing quantum computing algorithms for simulating multi-phase flow through porous media and optimization applications.
  • Assess feasibility and potential performance benefits of incorporating quantum computing algorithms in simulation of multi-phase flow through porous media workflows.
  • Identify novel use cases for existing quantum computing algorithms in reservoir simulation applications.
  • Attend scientific conferences and read technical publications to maintain up-to-date knowledge of quantum computing frameworks, algorithms, and use cases.
  • Author technical reports, articles, and patents.
  • Make and deliver technical presentations within Aramco Americas and Saudi Aramco, as well as at outside technical conferences.
  • Represent Aramco Americas & Saudi Aramco effectively to external organizations.
  • Consult with and provide technical guidance to Management and related engineering groups on matters which fall into his/her area of expert technical competence including budget studies, development programs, reservoir studies and equipment purchases and studies.
  • Reviews work of engineers directed on projects where additional manpower has been assigned.
  • Assist in training and onboarding new engineering personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Science/Engineering/Physics/Mathematics with a focus on quantum computing related research.
  • Candidate should be proficient in Python and one or more quantum computing frameworks (Qiskit, Cirq, TensorFlow Quantum, Pennylane).
  • Strong track record of publishing quantum computing related research in top-tier conferences and journals.
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined.
  • Candidate should be comfortable working independently or as part of a project team.  Frequent project presentations and travel to meetings at conferences and universities are expected.  Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette.
