Job DescriptionWestern Digital is seeking a detail-oriented and driven Quality Engineer to support and enhance our quality systems across the product lifecycle. This role plays a critical part in ensuring our products meet the highest standards of reliability, performance, and customer satisfaction.
You will partner cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and business teams to drive continuous improvement, strengthen quality processes, and support compliance with global standards.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Planning & Systems
Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance plans, inspection procedures, and documentation
Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO 9001 and internal quality frameworks
Support the continuous evolution of quality management systems
Auditing & Compliance
Conduct internal audits to assess process adherence and identify improvement opportunities
Support external audits, including supplier and customer audits
Drive corrective and preventive actions based on audit findings
Quality Reporting & Analytics
Define, track, and analyze key quality performance indicators (KPIs)
Prepare and present reports to management with actionable insights
Leverage data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Sales teams
Ensure quality is embedded throughout the entire product lifecycle—from design through production and delivery
Act as a key interface between technical and business stakeholders
Process Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
Monitor production processes and identify defects or deviations
Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
Drive continuous improvement initiatives using structured methodologies
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field
Experience
Proven experience in quality assurance or quality engineering, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial environment
Technical Expertise
Strong knowledge of quality tools and methodologies, including:
FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
Six Sigma / Lean methodologies
SPC (Statistical Process Control)
8D problem-solving process
Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001
Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
High attention to detail and process discipline
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, global teams
Languages
Business fluency in German and English (written and spoken)
