APL Engineered Materials is looking for a Quality & Safety Specialist to take ownership of our Quality and Safety programs at our Urbana facility.
This is a hands-on position in a small manufacturing environment. You will work directly with employees and managers to maintain quality and safety standards, keep programs and records up to date, conduct inspections and audits, and follow up on issues and corrective actions.
This position also handles applicable environmental and hazardous materials requirements and provides support to the company on quality and safety matters.
What You’ll Do
- Maintain APL’s Quality and Safety programs, procedures, and records
- Maintain our ISO quality program and conduct internal audits
- Manage corrective actions, investigations, and follow-up activities
- Conduct routine quality, safety, and housekeeping inspections
- Manage calibration activities and maintain calibration records
- Monitor processes and finished products for quality requirements
- Provide safety training and maintain training records
- Investigate quality, safety, and workplace incidents and follow up on corrective actions
- Maintain applicable OSHA, EPA, RCRA, DOT, and hazardous materials requirements and records
- Prepare documentation for customer, ISO, regulatory, and other audits or inspections
- Track quality and safety information and work with employees and managers to address issues and improve processes
- Maintain quality and safety documentation and ensure records are complete and up to date
- Perform other duties related to Quality and Safety as needed
What We’re Looking For
- Associate degree in Quality, Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field required
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
- Three or more years of experience in Quality, Safety, EHS, or a related role, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with ISO 9001 and internal auditing preferred
- Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and workplace safety practices
- Knowledge of environmental and hazardous materials requirements, including EPA, RCRA, and DOT, preferred
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the facility during inspections and other job duties
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
