The Quality Manager reports to the Lorain Plant Manager and is responsible for managing and maintaining the plant's quality management system. The foundation of the system is AS9100D and ISO9001:2015, and also includes Nadcap accreditation for specific processes. The quality manager's focus is on plant quality processes and systems, including product release, audits, customer complaints, continuous improvement, and statistical process control. The quality manager also provides leadership for change management facility-wide.
You Will have the Opportunity to:
- The Lorain role also manages the laboratory which includes chemical analysis, tensile, hardness, microstructure and other material testing that have direct impact on key operating metrics. There are currently four (4) laboratory technicians in this group.
- Additionally, the plant's quality engineer reports to the quality manager.
- Manage the plant's quality management system including quality document control and calibration systems.
- Plan, prepare for, and execute internal and external (third-party) audits. This includes AS9100D, Nadcap, customer, or other audits of the plant's products, processes, and systems.
- Respond to product and process quality challenges by planning cross-functional projects to realize product and process quality improvements.
- Respond to customer complaints by utilizing in-plant and external resources to thoroughly investigate material- or process-related deficiencies and pursue effective root cause identification. Generate coherent, constructive root cause and corrective action summaries, and be prepared to review these with business unit leadership and customers.
- Represent quality and plant interests during Materion colleague, customer, supplier or other visits to the plant.
- Take a proactive role in the creation of new part numbers and the configuration of their quality requirements. Understand SAP part number configuration including engineering and quality scrap and how these impact the business.
- Drive and directly support statistically defensible practices including regular tracking of acceptance criteria and other material and process characteristics that illuminate the health of the plant's manufacturing activities.
Education / Experience:
- Undergraduate general engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, natural science or other technical degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in a technical quality role, and two (2) to three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
- In depth knowledge of AS9100D or ISO 9001:2015 quality systems. Certification as a lead auditor is helpful, but at minimum the candidate must be prepared to complete this training shortly after entering the role.
- Exposure to Nadcap commodity audits and general aerospace industry quality systems is preferred.
- Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigma green- or black-belt certification is a plus. Familiarity with Lean or Six Sigma concepts is important.
- A demonstrated ability to provide clear guidance, motivate colleagues, and always be ready to listen and to contribute constructively is paramount.
- Clear links to experience with leading and maintaining change management activities are vital to success in this role.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office components such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc. is a must. Knowledge of SAP is a significant benefit.
- Critical to have excellent communication and leadership skills. The ability to develop strong relationships with all levels of an organization and with customers and suppliers is key to success in this role.
- Ability to work safely and actively support a safe working environment.
