Job Description
The Site Quality Manager and Feed Safety will oversee and lead the Feed Safety and Quality functions programs for the facility. This includes managing incoming raw corn, fermentation process, and further processes of Ethanol, Corn Oil and Distillers coproducts. The manager will ensure compliance with federal, state, and international regulation for the ethanol and feed, as well as customer requirements.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Supervises the QA/QC and Scale tech department. Ensures all test data is entered into the LIMS system and tanks are certified.
- Ensures ethanol and feed products comply with domestic and international regulations including but not limited to ASTM, ANP for ethanol and US FDA FSMA for Feed.
- Lead the feed safety team. Implement and maintain the feed safety plan.
- Maintains and updates the site’s Quality management system including procedures and work instructions acting as the site feed safety and quality document control coordinator.
- Maintains product specifications and feed labels.
- Investigate product non-conformances, lead root cause analysis and follow up on CAPA completions, both customer and internally identified.
- Perform and or coordinate quality and feed safety related training for all site employees.
- Oversees the maintenance and calibration of scale house and laboratory equipment.
- Oversees the quality and scale departments.
- Manages the plant fermentation performance.
- Oversees fermentation and other processes related to plant trails and supports enhancement opportunities as it relates to fermentation, ethanol, and feed.
- Manages the Quality and Laboratory budget and inventory.
- Supports SHE initiatives, policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Plant Manager and Regional Director of Quality.
Qualifications
Education/Professional Certification/Licenses
Education: Bachelor’s degree in food science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related science field.
Experience: 2- 5 years in an, dry/wet mill ethanol plant (preferred) or a food manufacturing facility.
Certifications:
- Preventive Controls Qualified Individual – Animal Feed
- Food Defense Qualified Individual
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong and current knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety Modernization Act.
- Knowledge of published methods (AOAC, AOCS, ASTM).
- Understanding of microbiology in relation to fermentation and feed safety.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including experience managing projects and teams.
- Fluent in English (verbal, reading, and writing skills).
- Broad knowledge of plant production processes, procedure, and equipment.
- Understanding of laboratory equipment such as GC, Karl-Fischer, IC, HPLC, NIR
- Ability to write clear procedures and policies.
- Professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to oversee and direct team efforts effectively.
- Well-organized, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Ability to lead and motivate others in cultivating a feed safety and quality-focused culture.
