Oversees the development and optimization of quality systems, tools, data, and processes on an ongoing basis that ensures compliance with established standard operating procedures and regulatory agency guidelines. Leads the compilation, analysis and reporting of metrics, including identification of trends and/or root cause(s) to help develop new initiatives and process improvements. Manages internal inspection readiness program, providing support at all regulatory inspections and corporate audits, tracking internal/external audit commitments and driving on time closure, evaluation of new requirements and emerging regulations and oversight for trending of quality compliance metrics. Incumbents in this job family are typically responsible for directing and guiding the work of teams and/or individuals. Typically incumbents would be responsible for performance reviews, pay reviews, and may have hire/fire decision making authority. In limited instances, incumbents in this management job level category may also be responsible for a functional area and not have people reporting to them. There are different levels available that provide clarity on contribution expectations based on knowledge, application, problem solving, impact, collaboration, and supervision.

The person must be able to read computer screens in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to speak effectively in front of team members and in front of other general group meetings.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform routine, college level mathematical operations, including statistical functions.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a solid knowledge of computers and OS systems as well as the ability to effectively communicate electronically.  Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Power Point is also required.

Education and Experience

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in microbiology, 5 years related experience and 3 years of managerial experience

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes/airborne particles/odors/microbiological hazards. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to quiet. This position is subject to daily use of computers/monitors and 10% travel which consists of visiting other buildings on the Lansing campus and 2-week intensive Petrifilm quality control training program in the Oakdale, MN facility
