Position Overview

OMG currently operates in two Divisions: OMG Roofing Products and FastenMaster®. OMG Roofing Products is a leading global manufacturer and supplier of value-added components for the commercial roofing industry. The FastenMaster Division manufactures and markets innovative, premium quality wood-to-wood fasteners that are engineered to enable professional contractors to complete building projects safer, faster, and easier. The quality of our products and services is critical to the success of our company and our customers.  The Quality Manager is a leadership position responsible for the full spectrum of quality operations at the Agawam manufacturing facility.  Reporting to the Director of Quality, the Quality Manager is expected to be a visible, floor-level leader who builds a culture of quality at the source while maintaining the systems and rigor that satisfy customer and internal quality requirements. 

 

Position Responsibilities

  • Promote Safety as the Number One priority of all OMG employees.
  • Lead and develop the site quality team by providing coaching, performance management, and professional development.
  • Own manufacturing quality performance for the Agawam site; drive process control plan implementation, in-process inspection discipline, and nonconforming material management across all manufacturing areas.
  • Lead defect tracking, root cause investigations, and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) management; ensure corrective actions are assigned, tracked, and verified for effectiveness.
  • Manage customer quality complaints and customer returns; serve as the primary quality contact for customer quality concerns and drive investigations to closure.
  • Oversee the supplier quality function including new supplier qualification, supplier performance monitoring, and supplier corrective action in partnership with Procurement, Operations and NPD.
  • Own and maintain the OMG Quality Management System (QMS) for the Agawam site including documentation, internal auditing, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Support the New Product Development stage gate process as the Quality function’s operational representative; partner with the NPD, Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering on production readiness, control plan development, and manufacturing validation.
  • Leads alignment discussions with stakeholders to gain organizational consensus on quality strategies and risk mitigation plans that result in the best products for the market that are designed for manufacturability.
  • Monitor and report quality performance metrics; drive continuous improvement projects to reduce Cost of Poor Quality, improve process capability, and enhance customer value.

 

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science related discipline or relevant experience
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in leading and implementing quality improvements.
  • Management experience and the ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Knowledge of quality methods and systems is required, statistics, control plans, sampling, and auditing.
  • LSS and ASQ certifications and demonstrated use of disciplines strongly preferred.
  • Advanced PC skills including experience with MS Office Suite and statistical software Minitab.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills are essential for dealing with all levels of internal and external suppliers and customers.
  • Strong judgement, negotiation, leadership and conflict skills in addition to problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Planning and organization skills.
  • Initiative and follow-up are required.
  • Positive can-do attitude.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in high noise areas and wear appropriate hearing protection devices.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle while maintaining focus on safe driving and avoiding all distractions when behind the wheel, especially cell phones.
  • Manual material handling involving the need to grip, squeeze, and pinch.
  • Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; and occasionally lift/push/pull/carry up to 50 pounds. 

 

Must be able to complete all essential job functions listed in the position responsibilities, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a science-related discipline, or relevant equivalent experience
  • At least 10 years of experience leading and implementing quality improvements
  • Management experience and ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Knowledge of quality methods and systems, statistics, control plans, sampling, and auditing
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Minitab
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills for working with internal and external suppliers and customers
  • Strong judgment, negotiation, leadership, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong business acumen
  • Planning and organization skills
  • Initiative and follow-up
  • LSS and ASQ certifications, with demonstrated use of these disciplines
  • Ability to work in high-noise areas while using hearing protection
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely
  • Ability to perform manual material handling and occasionally lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds
