Job Summary:
Our client is a global manufacturing company specializing in highly engineered metal components, precision machining, tooling, and metal stamping products serving industrial, automotive, and aerospace applications.

The Quality Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Quality Department, including quality engineering, supplier quality, quality inspection, quality systems, customer quality, and regulatory compliance.

This position directs quality activities to ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100, ITAR, customer requirements, and company standards while driving continuous improvement throughout the organization.

The Quality Manager is also responsible for maintaining effective relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to ensure product quality, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence.

Position Reports To: VP/General Manager

Positions Supervised:  Supplier Quality Engineer, Quality Inspectors I-III, Quality Programming Technician.

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
Requirement:
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive manufacturing quality experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in quality management or a supervisory role.
  • Experience in metal stamping, tooling, machining, or precision manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100, and ITAR requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, Root Cause Analysis, GD&T, and blueprint interpretation.
  • Strong understanding of quality inspection methods, calibration systems, and metrology practices.
  • ASQ CQE, CMQ/OE, Lead Auditor, or Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • Ability to travel as business needs require.

Responsibilities:

Quality Management System
  • Lead internal audits, customer audits, registrar audits, and surveillance audits.
  • Manage audit findings and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions.
  • Coordinate Management Review activities and report key quality metrics to leadership.
  • Maintain quality procedures, work instructions, forms, and records.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and customer-specific requirements.

Quality Engineering

  • Lead quality engineering activities related to product development, process validation, and production support.
  • Support APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, and MSA activities.
  • Analyze quality and production data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct capability studies and apply Statistical Process Control methodologies.
  • Provide technical support regarding blueprint interpretation, GD&T, inspection requirements, and measurement techniques.
  • Develop and maintain inspection methods, acceptance criteria, and quality standards.

Customer Quality

  • Serve as the primary customer contact for quality-related concerns and escalations.
  • Lead customer corrective action activities utilizing 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, and other root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Monitor customer scorecards and quality performance metrics.
  • Coordinate customer visits, audits, and quality reviews.
  • Ensure timely response and resolution of customer complaints and corrective action requests.
Supplier Quality
  • Provide leadership and direction for supplier quality activities.
  • Oversee supplier quality engineers and supplier development initiatives.
  • Monitor supplier performance, scorecards, corrective actions, and quality metrics.
  • Support supplier qualification, approval, and audit activities.
  • Partner with purchasing, engineering, and operations to improve supplier quality performance and reduce supplier-related quality issues.

Nonconforming Material and Corrective Action

  • Manage Return Material Authorizations (RMAs), Return to Vendor (RTV) Authorizations, and Nonconforming Material Reports (NCMRs).
  • Coordinate material containment, disposition, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and verification of effectiveness.
  • Work with customers, suppliers, and internal departments to resolve quality concerns.
  • Drive initiatives focused on reducing scrap, rework, and cost of poor quality.

Inspection and Metrology

  • Oversee quality inspectors and ensure inspection activities support production and customer requirements.
  • Maintain calibration programs for gauges, fixtures, comparators, OGP systems, CMMs, and other measuring devices.
  • Ensure inspection equipment remains compliant and capable of meeting measurement requirements.
  • Evaluate and implement new inspection technologies, equipment, and quality tools as appropriate.

Aerospace, Automotive and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with AS9100 requirements, including risk management, traceability, product safety, and configuration management.
  • Oversee First Article Inspection activities in accordance with AS9102 requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 Core Tools and customer-specific requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with ITAR regulations and export control requirements.
  • Support customer, regulatory, and government audits as required.

Manufacturing Support and Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with manufacturing, engineering, tool room, maintenance, and operations teams to improve product quality and process capability.
  • Support new product launches, engineering changes, and process validations.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing defects, scrap, rework, and customer complaints.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing and problem-solving methodologies to improve quality and operational performance.
  • Recommend and implement quality-related improvements to increase efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness.

Leadership and Team Development

  • Direct and develop the Quality Department, including supplier quality engineers and quality inspectors.
  • Establish departmental goals, priorities, and performance expectations aligned with company objectives.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, coach, and develop quality personnel.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, succession planning, and employee development activities.
  • Ensure employees maintain required competencies, certifications, and training requirements.
  • Manage departmental staffing, attendance, scheduling, and reporting requirements.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and customer focus.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with production, engineering, sales, purchasing, supply chain, accounting, and executive leadership regarding quality matters.
  • Communicate quality goals, performance metrics, audit results, and improvement initiatives throughout the organization.
  • Lead and participate in meetings, audits, training, and quality reviews as required.

Skills Required
