Alleima USA LLC is seeking a Quality Engineer in its Clarks Summit location:
The Quality Engineer will play a key role in ensuring product integrity, process consistency, and regulatory compliance within a heavy industrial steel manufacturing environment. Leveraging experience from the highly regulated nuclear sector, this role will focus on strengthening quality systems, improving process controls, driving root cause investigations, and advancing a culture of safety, precision, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Systems & Compliance
- Apply nuclear‑grade quality standards (e.g., NQA‑1, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B principles) to steel manufacturing processes, documentation, and control plans.
- Maintain and improve ISO 9001–based Quality Management System elements, ensuring consistent implementation across production lines.
- Support compliance with customer specifications, industry codes, and material certification requirements (e.g., ASTM, ASME, API).
Process Control & Continuous Improvement
- Analyze production processes to identify sources of variation and implement corrective actions using Lean, Six Sigma, FMEA, SPC, and error‑proofing methodologies.
- Develop and optimize inspection plans, test procedures, and quality checkpoints for raw materials, in‑process work, and finished steel products.
- Lead or support cross‑functional Kaizen events, yield‑improvement projects, and scrap‑reduction initiatives.
Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Actions
- Conduct structured problem‑solving using methodologies such as 5‑Why, RCA, Cause‑and‑Effect, Fault Tree Analysis, or Apollo.
- Develop and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), verify effectiveness, and ensure documentation accuracy.
Technical Quality Support
- Support metallurgical investigations, mechanical testing, and materials characterization activities to address product quality issues.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to validate process changes, equipment updates, and new product introductions.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing work instructions for quality impact.
Auditing & Supplier Quality
- Lead or participate in internal process audits to verify procedural compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Support supplier qualification, incoming material inspection processes, and supplier corrective action management.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare quality reports, dashboards, non‑conformance summaries, and customer documentation packages.
- Maintain thorough, traceable records consistent with nuclear‑industry rigor and steel‑industry requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Materials, Industrial, Metallurgical) or related technical field.
- 3–7+ years of quality engineering experience, preferably in nuclear, heavy manufacturing, steel, metals, or similar regulated industries.
- Experience with ASME, ASTM codes, ISO 9001 standards
- Strong understanding of quality tools (SPC, FMEA, MSA, control plans) and structured problem‑solving.
- Demonstrated experience with ISO 9001 or NQA‑1–based quality programs.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, welding symbols, and material specifications.
- Lead Auditor certification
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Familiarity with metallurgical testing, mechanical properties, and nondestructive examination (NDE/NDT).
- Experience supporting audits or working within highly regulated environments.
- Proficiency in quality software (e.g., Minitab, SAP QM, SPC tools).
Other Skills
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to influence operations teams.
- Proactive, hands‑on approach to problem‑solving in a production environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced industrial setting
