JOB PURPOSE: The purpose and function of the Quality Engineer is to provide quality support to the organization to meet or exceed customers’ expectations. The Quality Engineer is responsible for analyzing product and process data. The QE shall address any negative trends in data or opportunities for improvement with various Quality tools (Corrective action, 5 Why, ect.). The Quality Engineer shall schedule and facilitate meetings of cross-functional teams utilizing PDCA concepts to develop and execute countermeasures. The QE-Instrumentation will have specific focus on the OTDRs and associated equipment for calibration, testing and test development.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: BS in Engineering Discipline or 5 years equivalent work experience.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
The Quality Engineer reports directly to the QA/QC Manager or designee. The QE shall select and facilitate projects or assigned tasks until completed. The QE should utilize data from Power BI dashboards, OFS proprietary software, ect. to determine development projects, provide inputs into those projects, and gauge project performance. Quality Engineer should also use data from previously mentioned sources to facilitate problem solving teams used to perform root cause analysis, determine countermeasures, and verify or validate corrective actions. The Quality Engineer shall represent the Quality Department or Manager in engagements requiring inputs/present of the two entities mentioned.
Ability to use all foundation skills necessary and apply them effectively to solve problems.
Must have the ability to fully comprehend and process Operating Instructions, Process Change Notices, Setup Information, Hold/Stop Tags, Time Sheets, Maintenance Work Orders, and Material Requirements. Must be able to complete the required paperwork, track projects through to completion, and coordinate material and personnel resources to ensure favorable outputs within the processes.
The Quality Engineer must be able to train and provide feedback of training statuses at the request of the QA/QC Manager.
The Quality Engineer must lead by example with a good attitude and attendance, with the ability to communicate verbally and in written form. The QE will be expected to follow established company policies. The Quality Team Lead will ensure established work practices and policies are followed and recommend discipline. In the absence of the Shift Supervisor, the Lead is the senior department representative.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications)
BS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering disciplines or 5 years of related work experience, LEAN Manufacturing certification (green belt), Project Management experience
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Proficient with MS Office: Must be able to create and maintain Excel files and reports. Must be able to create and maintain Power Point files and presentations. Must be able to create and update standard operating procedures and work instructions.
- Must be able to manage personnel or resources used in projects that the QE is facilitating or participating.
- Conducts deep dives into process/project failures and provides report outs of findings.
- Analyzes hold tag data and facilitates or participates in meetings to reduce high frequency failures of hold tags.
- Assist/Facilitates teams engaged in Continuous Improvement activities.
- Support the QMS systems and audits as directed by Quality Manager
- Develop, implement, test, and validate optical test equipment, including OTDR’s, EOTDR’s, Qualification Lab Mechanical Equipment, MTS, Enstron tools
- MTS software training to develop relevant algorithms and run programs for MQT requests.
- Maintenance and calibration of optical and mechanical metrology equipment
- Assist in the development of new techniques and processes for the advancement of Optical testing technology, which includes hardware engineering, software development, and instrumentation
- Develop new testing practices for advanced optical fiber technologies, including Hollow Core Fiber and Multi-Core Fiber, along with any additional fiber type designs.
- Troubleshoot and debug test systems and automation solutions from a software and hardware perspective.
- Support quality activities as assigned by Quality Manager
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
· Measurement equipment: Microscope, calipers, gauges, ect.
· Pin Gauge
· Microsoft Office Applications (especially Word and Excel)
· Able to use data analysis applications like Minitab
· Can manage multiple tasks effectively
