The Magna Exteriors portfolio of products includes access systems such as liftgates, exterior trim, modular systems, front-end modules including fascia, active aerodynamic systems and other lightweight structural components for automotive, commercial truck and other industrial markets.

Job Responsibilities:
JOB SUMMARY:
Quality Engineering (QE) roles at Magna Engineered Glass (Magna) consist of 3 functional groups; Production, Launch, and Supplier development engineering. In each of these groups the QE will champion both internal (Magna) and external (OEM) costumer requirements. QEs support Production and Engineering teams by providing data collected via inspection, audit, and testing activities. QEs champion controlling documents and standards to achieve World Class Quality. QEs are required to work with cross functional teams in understanding the why made/ why shipped causation of issues through the implementation of the various problem-solving techniques.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serve as the voice of the customer, ensuring customer requirements and expectations are clearly communicated, understood, and met throughout all manufacturing and quality processes.
  • Lead and support Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities, including FMEA development, control plans, process capability studies, and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions.
  • Conduct Gauge R&R and measurement system analyses to verify accuracy and repeatability of inspection methods and equipment.
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints and internal nonconformities, leading structured root cause analysis and driving effective corrective and preventive actions (8D, 5-Why, etc.) to eliminate recurrence.
  • Plan, execute, and oversee inspection and testing of manufactured products to ensure conformance with internal specifications and customer standards.
  • Work with cross functional team in generating solutions to problems impacting key production metrics
  • Analyze warranty returns, scrap, and rework data to identify trends and recommend product or process improvements.
  • Collect and track customer issues to understand performance from the customer perspective.
  • Maintain and utilize lessons learned and best practices databases to support future program launches and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct process and product audits to verify compliance with quality standards, procedures, and IATF 16949 requirements.
  • Support supplier quality activities as needed, including part qualification, performance reviews, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Utilize and maintain customer portals (e.g., GM, Ford, Stellantis, etc.) to manage concerns, submit documentation, and communicate status updates effectively.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/related field or 5+ years of direct manufacturing quality experience.
  • 3+ years Tier 1 automotive experience required.
  • Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • High attention to detail with strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to review internal scrap and support corrective actions.
  • Experience managing sorting activities (internal or third-party) and using data to drive improvements.
  • Strong computer skills, including use of customer portals and websites.
  • Quality certifications (e.g., Internal Auditor, Six Sigma).
  • Experience developing PFMEA, Control Plans, Job Element Sheets, and PPAP documentation.
  • Proficiency with statistical tools such as Minitab; experience conducting Gage R&R studies.
  • Strong knowledge of problem-solving tools (3-legged 5 Whys, 8D, 5P, etc.); ability to lead corrective actions independently.
  • In-depth understanding of GD&T, with ability to calculate dimensions from blueprints to JES.
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949 standards (internal auditor certification a plus).
  • Experience navigating all aspects of customer portals (quality, delivery, warranty).
  • English proficiency with strong verbal and written communication skills; bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • Travel requirements for this position are estimated up to 25% of the time and may include both domestic and/or international destinations as needed.

  • Operational knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 requirements and how they are applied
  • Operational knowledge of IATF 16949/ISO 9001 2015 requirements and how they are applied
  • In depth understanding of internal and external customer requirements.
  • Understand key influences to production metrics such as but not limited to First Pass Yield, Scrap, Process variation, and production yield.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to move around the manufacturing facility, including standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, to conduct inspections, audits, and meetings.
  • Proficiency in manipulating small parts and operating testing equipment, demonstrating good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Strong vision, including close-up and color vision, for reading technical documentation, inspecting parts, and interpreting data accurately.
  • High level of attention to detail to identify defects, analyze data, and ensure compliance with standards, specifications, and customer requirements.
