Overview:

Vitro's Elkin, NC Automotive Glass plant is looking for a Quality Engineer to join an outstanding local team on their journey to Best-in-Class Quality.  The Quality team is very focused on ensuring process control, integrated support from all departments, and metrics that help drive and highlight the team's growth week after week.  Our customers deserve the top quality that Vitro offers.  It takes the entire site pulling together to ensure that happens.  This role will help to lead the initiatives, programs, and customer support tied to product quality. 

The Quality Engineer reports directly to the Plant Quality Manager and will work closely with the Elkin staff to drive plant results as a team. 


This position supports and administers activities in the Quality Control Department by accumulating and analyzing quality data of in-process and out-going production.  Quality Engineers support the Quality Department with necessary documentation, charts/graphs, and supports customer activities.


Responsibilities:

Establishing and maintaining current and long-range quality objectives for the plant is standard work; as well as designing Quality Control Systems and developing improvements for existing systems through the application of experience and acquired knowledge.  In addition, the Quality Engineer will use the developed quality standards and technology of the Company with respect to costs, product quality, and customer service.  This position is in frequent contact with the Quality Manager, Plant Manager, VSMs, and Shift Supervisors concerning quality procedures, product quality levels, as well as customer response.  It is imperative the Quality Engineer exercise professionalism, communication, and teamwork daily.



The Quality Engineer leads analysis of field complaints, inspects field returns, and makes periodic visits to customer facilities as necessary.  They will be the lead for all compliance audits required (i.e. IATF16949, CC, InMetro, India BIS, FMVSS, etc.)


Managing in-plant Certification testing programs and evaluating results to assist in problem-solving and product improvement in cooperation with the Production Departments is required in the role.  The Quality Control Department works with the Production Department to evaluate borderline quality characteristics and render assistance based upon thorough knowledge of product specifications and customer requirements.


Based upon the Quality Engineer's knowledge and judgment of the circumstances and the conditions existing at the time, he/she has the responsibility and full decision-making power to determine whether product meets stated requirements, and to provide judgment in those areas where requirements may not exist; however, the final decision to save or throw away, to screen or not to screen, or to ship or not to ship is strictly the responsibility of the Plant Manager.


The candidate will contribute to the morale of all Quality Control personnel and create an atmosphere of confidence, mutual trust, and respect.

Qualifications:

Basic qualifications include a bachelor’s degree plus three to five years or more in industrial experience in quality control or related function(s), an aptitude in mathematics and statistics, skill in oral and written communication, and the ability to effectively supervise and develop subordinates if necessary.


He/she should have working knowledge of IATF16949 standards, Red X methodologies, GD&T, MiniTab & Microsoft Office software, DFSS, Statistics, Export compliance, etc. with good organization skills.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3-5+ years industrial experience in quality control or related functions
  • Aptitude in mathematics and statistics
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to supervise and develop subordinates if necessary
  • Working knowledge of IATF16949 standards
  • Working knowledge of Red X methodologies
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
  • Proficiency with Minitab
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of DFSS (Design for Six Sigma)
  • Knowledge of export compliance
  • Good organization skills
